The Jewish Brigade and members of the Milan Jewish community were violently insulted and harassed during a parade celebrating the 79th anniversary of Italy’s Liberation Day on Saturday, and ultimately were forced to withdraw under police escort.

In 1944, “an official communique by the War Office announced the formation of the Jewish Brigade Group.” They heroically fought the Nazis. The group was comprised of a 5,000-plus man Jewish combat force under British Army auspices, and has been honored since the war. Now comes the pro-Palestinian lobby to torment the descendants of the Jewish Brigade group. This is reminiscent of how the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Hajj Amin al-Husseini actively collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II. Al-Husseini allied with Hitler and Eichmann to oppose British rule and stop Jewish migration to the Jews’ ancestral homeland.

History now repeats itself with the Jew-hatred that is inherent in Arab nationalism. This incident at the Milan Liberation Day march is appalling, and the Italian government should deal with it severely, unless Italy wants the reputation of turning a blind eye to antisemitism on a level comparable to Nazism. The event ended in what Jewish leaders “described as a disgrace for the city and the country.”
