At least Jeh Johnson, Obama's DHS, and the man who enforced Obama's policy was more honest and pragmatic about the situation than the finger pointing, blame gaming AP:
DHS Sec. Jeh Johnson: I Freely Admit We Detained Children, It Was Necessary
Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, said the Obama administration attempted to keep “quiet” about how many unaccompanied minors were crossing the border and that children were being held in detention centers.
“There were large numbers of people coming in,” Cuellar said in an interview with CNN on Saturday.
“The Obama administration was trying to keep this quiet.”
According to the Washington Post, nearly 70,000 unaccompanied minors were apprehended at the border in 2014.
