A mission to Mars will be a suicide mission for humans. There is no oxygen, its to cold , and there is just to much ultravilolet radiation for humans to be exposed to. And once you land , you become to heavy to lift back off to get back to Earth!!.Not feaseble at all for humans to visit.

When has space exploration NOT lead to new discoveries? Cell phones, personal computers, all spin offs of space mission technology, has lead to a booming economy here on earth right now. Whos to say continued exploration wont continue to lead to new things?

And once you land on Mars the gravity is such that you can not bring enough fuel to lift you off of Mars to get you back to Earth!! You people have been brainwashed by science fiction movies with this Mars colonization idea. Nothing will grow on Mars, and when the colonizers run out of food they will all starve to death, if the radiation or lack of oxygen doesn't kill them off first.And that is if they make it to Mars!, they were a few probes that skipped off the atmosphere because the telemetry navigation was off a few degrees.
You have to wait 3 to 6 years to reach optimal orbit just to get there. Do the research before you submit these fantasy posts.

There may be something of great value on Mars that we dont know of yet. Maybe an abundance of a mineral we could use or perhaps an unknown element here on earth, or maybe something else. i personaly think the best way to colonize mars would be to put off actual human colonization for some time, except for short trips maybe, however we should continue advancing our A.I. robotics and send them to mars first to help in preparing a habitat for humans later.

There is confirmation of water on several bodies in the solar system. From that you can make oxygen and use hydrogen for fuel.
We also explore earth in many uninhabitable places. Exploring the ocean is much like being in space, as it takes an artificial atmosphere to bring humans to the deep.

So then, the original funding of the U.S. space missions in the 1960's would have been better spent on helping people right? Continuing the advancement of human kind through the kind of technology it takes to explore Space, IS helping people. As already pointed out by many here, the great advances of space exploration have created new ways to expand the economy here, in ways never dreamed of in the 1950's. That is helping people, not to mention, its probably a good idea to develop mars before the Russians and Chinese governments get to it.
