Where I grew up in the flat prairie lands of Oklahoma.
We used greyhound dogs to chase the coyotes across our line of fire.
And 22-250 rifles to bring them down![]()
I had a 22-250 in my hand just the other night, but resisted the impulse to buy. Great round for coyote, if you're a hunter and wanting to preserve the pelts.
I just kill them. I couldn't care less how much damage the bullet does to the pelt, because I'm just going to leave the dog lying as bait for others to kill as well. I've shot them with a 45/70 (knocked him 4 feet in the air, and 20 feet back, literally, and completely removed his right shoulder), but I generally use a .308 so I can get a little more reach.
The guys who "do it for a living" love the 22-250. Flat, FAST bullet!
