• have incarcerated more than a million of their own people, and have tortured, killed and sterilized many of the prisoners
• they also incarcerate anyone who presents a different point of view than the official government position

It's certainly be interesting to see whether the CCP's methods work. If they do, you'll bet a lot of other people will be using them.

Stifling speech is working. People are ignorant as hell. the 100th Anniversary of the CCP was 11 days ago and people were genuinely happy about it. Because they don't know any different. They can't get this outside information, so why would they think to criticize. They don't know about Tiananmen Square, they don't know about all the other stuff.

When a company like Nike or H&M make comments, they get shut down immediately and people stop buying their stuff for a month or two. It's insane.

The biggest issue I can see is having a bunch of ignoramus to choose from for future leaders. But you never know, it might work. If people can't get together to fight things, then it'll just keep going.

You say their actions are based on the culture and that is just crap. The Chinese government is repressive in order to keep the country unified. China's history has often been driven by factions, warlords and corruption. It is a country of different languages and cultures. The differences in spoken language are so profound that a Mandarin speaker cannot understand what someone speaking Cantonese is saying. The government has made Mandarin the required language of instruction in China but that has had little effect on the prevalence of other dialects and cultural identity within China. Even in what is considered to be the majority Han population there are significant cultural differences, in part because Han was an attempt to give the Chinese a unified identity and was not a shared cultural identity.

Chinese loyalty often goes no further than family or clan and that is why the country has been so hard to control throughout history. Mao knew that and began the repression that killed 50?, 100? million Chinese and which is the predecessor to the government in control today.

I agree that there are many people who would prefer to stay in their country of origin. However the majority of those expressing a wish to emigrate mention the US as a preferred destination. Funny but I've never heard anyone say that they wanted to move to Russia or China. Not really a surprise.

Often it is economic, which is why Russia and China don't usually come up, and their crappy governments don't help. But there are ex-pats (from the US or other countries) living there as well.

There are obviously other choices but the majority of those expressing a wish to emigrate mention the US as a preferred destination.

Working overseas may lead to staying in that country permanently because of local ties, marriage, business interests or any number of other reasons. Very few of the expats I knew set out with the intention to move permanently to another country.

I think upgrading infrastructure at every opportunity should be a fixed Standard for the general government of the Union.

From that perspective, we could generate better returns to scale by putting more infrastructure underground. It would also help any environment by improving green space.
