Proverbs 16: 2
"All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits."
In a man whose life he enjoys, he will declare that all his ways are clean. And this way of justifying the lifestyle he is in is an excuse to not get better. A man who sees his non-working life as clean through self justifications and self explanations allow him to feel as if he does not have to get better. A man who does not use the trash receptacles but 'litters' through self justifications and explanations will explain his behavior as an acceptable 'clean' thing for himself. And so The LORD weighs the spirits to see if the man is truly sincere in his explanations and justifications or is just using his explanations and justifications because he does not want to 'try' and put in effort of getting better, or even yet, to not get in the 'right' with God.
