This budding rocket scientist tried to rob a landscaper's van, but got trapped inside when it locked him in. Then he tried to explain the entire story as a misunderstanding. A dog was chasing him, he said, and he ran into the van for safety.

Unfortunately for him, it was all caught on someone's doorbell camera. Busted, going to jail.

I have a friend who used to keep newspaper clippings of tons of shit like this. My favorite one was criminals breaking into a hotel room and stealing all the lady's jewelry as well as her polaroid camera. But, before leaving, they took a picture of themselves with the camera but forgot to take it with them, leaving the picture there.
