I was somewhat insulted at first, but that all changed when I came home. After talking with serious people, Americans were a disappointment.

Things have only gotten worse.

Much of the Right is brainwashed or radical.

Adults don't pretend they are something they are not, they don't dissemble constantly, and they don't support incompetent autocrats.

I became aware of the moniker "Ugly American" in the late 60s and early 70s. At first I was surprised and agreed that the name was probably deserved. After a bit more examination of the topic, I came to the same conclusion as you have stated.
