LOL indeed!
I'm not sure action/dramas are usually known for winning Oscar awards. The hype surrounding the movie was probably the only reason it was nominated in the first place. Oh well. It was an extremely successful movie anyways.
The "free advertising" given Obama by the Liberal media doesn't make him a good President either.I'm not sure action/dramas are usually known for winning Oscar awards. With all the free advertisement given to that movie by fox and their associated right wing media sources, it's odd that it wasn't more successful. Imagine how much more it would have made with all that free advertising if it was a good movie.

You have an amazing grasp of the obvious. A movie is a product. The better the product the more people buy it. The award wasn't based on profit made. McDonalds brings in more money than the Smithsonian Museum, so does that make it better?

Kinda like obuthole does, whines and blames someone else. The "free advertising" given Obama by the Liberal media doesn't make him a good President either
WAH WAH WAH. You whine much? ODS got you down?
You rethugs have problem. Can't make an Oscar winning move and can't nominate a candidate to win the WH in the next election.
What's a right winger to do? Whine and blame someone else.

In a way, yes....but still. I live in the area (San Diego) and listen to a big LA radio station (KFI) that had tons of advertising for the Oscars over the last few months. The only one that seemed to win considering the amount spent on advertising was "Big Hero 6"...all the rest got virtually nothing.1American Sniper12/25/2014Warner Bros.DramaR$318,054,80038,929,5962Fifty Shades of Grey2/13/2015UniversalDramaR$130,148,31015,930,0253The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water2/6/2015Paramount PicturesComedyPG$125,171,83415,320,9094Taken 31/9/201520th Century FoxActionPG-13$87,632,98510,726,1915Paddington1/16/2015Weinstein Co.AdventurePG$67,660,7668,281,6116Kingsman: The Secret Service2/13/201520th Century FoxActionR$67,105,9498,213,7027The Wedding Ringer1/16/2015Sony PicturesComedyR$61,896,3937,576,0578The Imitation Game11/28/2014Weinstein Co.DramaPG-13$61,221,3397,493,4319The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies12/17/2014Warner Bros.AdventurePG-13$54,893,3096,718,88710Into the Woods12/25/2014Walt DisneyMusicalPG$54,526,6196,674,00411Selma12/25/2014Paramount PicturesDramaPG-13$48,162,6165,895,05712

No. The Oscars are based on marketing and advertising to Academy voters by the producers. How much swag you give them.

Birdman was better than American Sniper.
