Another Cultist repeats a Trumpian talking point, complete with a “Xidan” reference without offering a shred of evidence or proof.
I’ll assume by “Russia First” he means the lifting of sanctions against Russia so the EU can buy Russian oil, that’s at the specific request of the EU, not Russia.
The lifting of this sanction in no way harms the USA so it’s hardly putting “Russia first”, but it does give Biden additional leverage against Putin.
I have noticed that since Biden met with Putin in Switzerland, there have been no further ransomware hackings of American infrastructure.
There have also been no further threats against Crimea or the Ukraine, and Putin is not smirking his way through news conferences about his meeting with American Presidents.
A very serious looking Putin said that reports of Biden’s “dementia” in both the Russian and American media are completely false. That Biden was very well prepared for their meeting and knew exactly how to get what he wanted.
I took this to mean that there would be no further shenanigans of the kind that went on in terms of election interference, planting of false evidence, and hacking of the US government or American infrastructure anytime soon.
As for the Chinese, under the Trump administration, the Chinese started construction of their Silk Road trade infrastructure, investing in deep sea shipping ports along the coast of Africa and the Americas. The Chinese wouldn’t be building these shipping ports if they didn’t intend to keep buying grain from Mexico and South America.
When Trump slapped tariffs on Chinese goods, the Chinese immediately pivoted their supply contracts for soy beans and rice to Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. They’re building the seaports to expand these supply chains. These American markets are now permanently lost to American farmers.
This is an example of how Trump’s version of “America First”, harmed US trade and helped the Chinese to become the largest economy in the world on his watch.
When Trump took office he railed about the US trade deficit with the rest of the world. His “America First” trade policy was supposed to wipe out the trade deficit. But by 2019, the American trade deficit had increased by $200 billion under Trump’s America First policies and China had surpassed the USA in both production and export markets.
Complexity and nuance intimidate them, so their impulse is to just attack.
Their concepts of treaties and negotiations are all based on the concept of “winners and losers”. The best deals are “bi-lateral” meaning both sides win.
The concept that both sides in a trade deal have to benefit from the deal or you have nothing is lost on them, and so is the concept of “enlightened self interest”.
They’re complaining about giving free vaccines to Third World countries. You should be profiting from those vaccines. We’ll all be better off financially when it’s over. The sooner the world is vaccinated the sooner we get back to real life.
