Today, the Supreme Court heard the challenge to Trump’s tariffs.

If the Court says Trump cannot impose tariffs, as the law enacted by Congress years ago allows him to do, trillions of dollars of investment in the USA from foreign sources will vanish.

Only the President can speak with one voice; there is no way that a President can achieve such positive deals for the USA while hoping that Congress will back him up and eventually pass tariffs. No way.

In a few months, we will know where we are at on this issue.

Trillions of dollars of investments in the USA are in the balance.

If SCOTUS says the President cannot do this, they will bear the economic responsivity for those deals drying up. SCOTUS cannot wash their hands and say anything else, this will be on them.

You better hope they shit-can the tariffs. It's your only hope for the midterms because the economy will improve rapidly once they are gone.

Personally I hope they leave them in place. The worse tRump makes things the more likely you incompetent children will be kicked to the curb.

People begging for authoritarians.

When do you guys propose just getting rid of Congress?

You have the economic understanding of a retarded lemming.

Trump has a Plan-B that has a better legal basis than IEEPA.

“They’re aware there are a number of different statutes they can use to recoup the tariff authority,” said Everett Eissenstat, former deputy director of the White House’s National Economic Council during Trump’s first term. “There’s a lot of tools there that they could go to to make up that tariff revenue.”

This is on Trump, not SCOTUS. He knew he was breaking the law and constitution when he began.

He tried this his first term and had to back down because congress would not give him that sweeping taxing power with Tariffs....

This time Trump just ignored going to congress for permission...

He isn't breaking any laws or the Constitution. Blame Congress for passing open ended laws that gives the Executive such power.

You're an idiot. Admit it. $17 trillion dollars so far coming in is going to cause the economy to collapse? Please explain why or shut up.

No, they DID NOT.
Yes, Congress has passed several laws that delegate the authority to impose tariffs to the president under specific conditions. While the U.S. Constitution grants the power to lay and collect tariffs to Congress (Article I, Section 8), subsequent legislation has provided the executive branch with discretionary power in certain circumstances.
Several laws grant the president authority to impose tariffs under specific conditions. These include Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, allowing tariffs if imports threaten national security, and Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which permits action against unfair foreign trade practices. The president can also impose temporary tariffs under Section 201 of the Trade Act of 1974 if increased imports harm a domestic industry. Additionally, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977 provides broad authority during national emergencies, which has been used for import regulation and tariffs. - Google AI
