Six days in China at this time? This makes little sense, he is in effect messaging that he chooses China over America and other Asian allies such as Japan. Right after China placed warships off their coast. Xi is making him and Australia look weak and obedient while hurting his relationship with America. Just as the U.S are prudently judging Canada for their civil liberty abuses and anti-Americanism, ensuring this is equalized with tariffs, they will also be judging the Aussies accordingly. As will Japan and S Korea you can be certain.

His visit to China was all about tourism and trade.
2 days in Shanghai, business delegation talking with Chinese business leaders.
2 days in Beijing, meeting Xi, "pressing the flesh", and visiting the Great Wall.
2 days in another city, meeting with Premier Li and talking who knows what....maybe 'specifics'.
Then home.
All reasonable.
When he gets home he'll be facing the music, the music of discontent.
