You're on a political message board talking politics daily but are on a "break" from politics??
The Patriot Act goes back nearly 1/4 century and was enacted by the Bush Administration after 9/11. It was a hot and huge news item. It expanded the government's power to spy on it's citizens and detain people without trial just because they come up with a "reason". Being concerned about rights and liberties thereof seems very reasonable to me. Kind of like if they pass a law that says you have to pass a government psychiatric exam to own a gun...as if the government couldn't arrange who passes and who doesn't just by owning some psychiatrists. Very thin line they're walking there.
