The smear was that Biden fired the prosecutor who was going after his son. The Prosecutor was a Russian asset who was shaking down Burisma for a bribe - which Burisma had paid.

Nobody was going after Burisma or Hunter Biden. The US government, the IMF, and NATO wanted that prosecutor fired and THEY sent Biden to get the job done.
