'Officials throughout the Trump administration are bracing themselves for the President to make an announcement about the US presence in Afghanistan, similar to his declaration Wednesday that the US will withdraw the military from Syria, informed administration sources tell CNN.

The sources cautioned that President has not yet made a final decision, but officials are concerned and convinced that he might do so, and soon.
The US has about 14,000 troops in Afghanistan, most of which are present as part of a larger NATO-led mission to train, advise and assist Afghan forces. Any withdrawal would be complicated by the fact that the United States is part of NATO's Resolute Support mission.

Trump has long been critical of the US presence in Afghanistan, which began in 2001 after the September 11 terrorist attacks. He has questioned US investment in the country, asking in 2011, "When will we stop wasting our money on rebuilding Afghanistan? We must rebuild our country first."'

I despise Trump as POTUS.

But if he does this (along with his fantastic intention of leaving Syria soon) I will be the first to give him a BIG thumbs up.

Afghanistan is TOTALLY unwinnable and it is NONE OF AMERICA'S BUSINESS. Let the Syrian's and Afghani's have their countries back.

If Trump does this - fantastic.

Of course, war-mongering, neocons will HATE it (I imagine John Bolton is none too happy right now). Excellent.

A little late and a TOTAL turnaround from what he said a while ago on Afghanistan.

But kudos to him (IF it is true) just the same.

We can’t stay there forever. Afghanistan isn’t South Korea or Germany. It will never be civilized and will always be a shit hole.

If terrorists overrun the country again and attack us again, nuke it border to border which is what Bush should had done.

Lets just say we are out of money and need to bring the troops home from all over. We simply can't afford to keep borrowing $1.4T a year on top of a $21T Debt.
