Ace Frehley, founding member of KISS, dead at 74

I was never a huge fan. I certainly give them their props. They did well.

I did like Frehley's "Back in the NY Groove"

Ace Frehley, Kiss Lead Guitarist and Solo Artist, Dies at 74

Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley, co-founder and lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Kiss, has died following injuries suffered during a fall last month, according to a statement from his family. He was 74.

Frehley’s family issued the following statement:

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers, and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”

Commentary:

What is there to say? The best music is getting old and vanishing before our eyes. This is just one more player from the soundtrack of My childhood.

What better way to honor him than in music?

This I think has to be my all time favorite Kiss performance though they weren't in costume/makeup. But Frenley is prominently featured:

"New York Groove" was the best of the solo efforts by the band's members in my humble opinion. RIP Paul "Ace" Frehley.
My brother was a big fan of KISS. Me, not so much. But I have grown to enjoy their music.

My brother would be proud to know his niece, my youngest daughter, is also a big fan. She is the one who came and told me last night Ace had died.

It is unusual for an old school rock start to live to their 70s.

Way to go, Ace.

He apparently took a fall in his studio, hit his, had a brain bleed, and wound up on life support. No word on whether or not the family pulled the plug...

Part of the soundtrack of my life...
The make-up and the not-so subtle overtones of the music was a protest I used to make as a member of the KISS Army back in the day. Never got too much into my mom and dad's music but my older cousins turned me on to 60's folk. Turns out KISS was rather tame in terms of protest. I guess it was more of their aura than their "message".

I heard Groove today...not ashamed to say a slight tear came to my eyes....
