Would not matter if it was more than taxes. Unless instructed to audit, an accounting firm can sign off on financial statements. usually has a disclaimer that they are un-audited statements. They just certify that the numbers presented to them are consistent and in line with GAAP. They don't dig to make sure they are all the numbers.
