News sources and some Democrats decry the parade as a waste of money citing figures of tens to over a hundred million dollars in costs to put it on. But, what are the facts?

Every serviceperson is being paid whether they are in the parade or not.
All the equipment and armaments are already paid for.
If the fuel wasn't being used to parade it would be used in training.
Parading is part of the military experience and is a discipline all its own (I paraded a lot when in the service).

So, parading our military isn't all that expensive.

But feeding kids and the elderly is too expensive.

But feeding kids and the elderly is too expensive.
Based on the money spent, they eat too much for their own good. Money is literally shoveled at the recipients of food aid.

How can it cost $300/month to feed a baby while an adult working a physical job can eat healthily on $150/month?

The feeding of kids and the elderly is not the responsibility of the Federal Government.

I personally couldn't care less if this parade goes off or not. As for the money, anytime a leftist complains about the money spent, they should get a Louisville Slugger upside the head.

Unless you have to send them hundreds of miles from where they are stationed

  • Service members are paid per diem for travel in addition to their housing costs and meals.
  • Travel for participants have to be paid for.
  • Spit/Shinning and painting equipment just for the parade isn't paid for.
  • Training must still occur, if the fuel dollars are spent getting the equipment to the parade, then MORE money will be spent because the fuel for training still has to be paid for.
  • Then in addition to the personnel movement costs, there is the costs of transporting the equipment either on trucks, rail, or aircraft (transportation, fuel, equipment maintenance and per diem for the movers).

There are more "costs" to the parade than just the military participants. There are local law enforcement and security personnel that have to be brought in (travel + housing + meals) in addition to having to boost the numbers of law enforcement working that day. Many will then be getting overtime pay for the additional hours.

Of course now we will incur the additional costs of getting those troops and tanks to downtown L.A. (I kid, I kid.)

Which will help the local economy. It will be interesting to see the parade costs, minus the positive economic impact and tax revenue.
