When you are a large media outlet, you are accountable for what your people say in your broadcasts. It ain't their broadcast, it's yours and if you ain't careful about protecting your image then you end up like MSNBC and CNN. It's almost like being in the military, you can say what you want but if you're in uniform then you can be held accountable for perceived discredit to the president and everyone else between him and you. And everyone in uniform knows it, there's no ambiguity about it.

So, yeah you have a right to free speech but that doesn't mean you can say what you want, where you want, when you want, and under any circumstance. If you come into my house and badmouth my wife, then I can throw your ass out. You can say it, but there can be consequences.

Actually the dominoes went like this, NEXSTAR and Sinclair said they were pulling Kimmel. Nexstar and Sinclair have viewers/affiliates in the heartland. Disney owns ABC and did not want to lose Nexstar & Sinlair, so it pulled Kimmel. The FCC really didn't have much to do with Disney's decision.

2. Nexstar and Sinclair told ABC they will not broadcast Kimmel
3. ABC canned Kimmel
4. It was a business decision by Disney, not government coercion by the FCC threatening ABC..
5. If the FCC did anything to violate the 1st Amendment rights of ABC the courts would side with ABC over the government.
