Abbot has the right idea, calls for legislative hearings on mass shootings

After another mass school shooting the political response, especially from Democrats, was 'SSDD' all based on their decades-old pitical rhetoric and agenda.

'Guns bad, must have gun bans, disarm law-abiding citizens', and they rushed off to dust off and modify the same calls for gun bans they have claimed they have wanted for the last 20 years.

(These are the same pieces of gun ban legislation they have blocked or refused to allow to maje it to the floor for a vote during those 20 years, even when they knew they had the votes to do it.)

It is literally the same thing after every school shooting. Despite claiminng 'every solution is on the table', once again Democrats showed they wod not agree to any solution that was not restricted to gun bans and disarming law-abiding citizens. Schumer even blocked bipartisan lrgislation that would make schools more secure and make kids safer.

These sctions, to include blocking their own gun ban legislation, proves Democrats cate more about scoring political points and making Republicans look bad than thry care about protecting kids.

You've heard all the rhetoric and gun-grabbing talking points from the Democrats after school shootings...YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM?

There have been so many pitical show votes and hearings held to score political points / hurt the other party, especially over issues Americans have moved on from because of more important issues effecting them right now ...

It's about time to end the political theater and bullshit and actually hold serious hearings to SOLVE, not just discuss, serious issues effecting Americans.

Abbott is right - politicians need to hold serious hearings to get to the heart of the issue - WHY these kids are doing this, as well as what actions can be taken to make our kids and schools safer, with ALL options and solutions seriously on the table...and these hearings should be open for a to see.

Abbott is a special kind of stupid, the for sale kind of stupid. Abbott has been "bought and bossed" since he was the AG. Capping damages on malpractice suits, defending "Dr. Death", suing the Obama administration dozens and dozens of times to stop things like environmental restrictions or even requiring companies to notify employees of dangerous chemicals. And to be honest, it takes an even more special kind of stupid to vote for someone like him.

But it is comical to talk about political positioning when his actions just call for the same old lip treatment, all talk no action, bullshit that Republicans always trot out after school shootings as a big smokescreen to protect the almighty profit machine of the gun manufacturers. Like school safety. You can spend millions and millions of dollars on walls, security gates, and video monitoring systems. All those measures are only as secure as the discipline involved. A security guard propping open a door to take a smoke breaks renders all those dollars moot.

But the really big one, "mental health". What a total crock of shit. We don't need an investigation into "why" these shooters do what they do. We have known "why" since Columbine. Bullying, ostracizing, belittling. How can the Republican party pretend to address those issues when they demonize the very individuals they now want to seem concerned about. The shooter in Texas was probably transgender, do you think it helps by denying medical treatment to those individuals? Do you not think that this bullshit about CRT or propagating the whole "replacement theory" doesn't embolden people like the shooter in New York?

I mean here is a thought. When you are spouting off about a civil war, threaten shooting people because they are out to "take your guns", or even applaud chants of "Fuck Joe Biden", you can't really start acting concerned with some crazy ass yahoo actually acts on what you guys are perpetuating. If the Republican party, and Abbott for sure, want to examine the "why" behind these school shooting I suggest the first place they start is in front of a mirror.

What gets me about it is that it is so obviously a bad faith argument. Mental health? If they really believed it they would support background checks and red flag laws. Whose purpose it is to identify people who have a criminal or mental health issue. The Republicans have actively worked against either.

What it quite obviously, is just a way to get out of talking about the link between gun and gun violence. Hoping, and probably succeeding that peoples attention span is shorter than their willingness to resist any meaningfull legistlastion.
