Everybody ought to recognize that the actions to restrict temporarily Trump’s social media access, to remove him from power by the Cabinet or via Impeachment, are essentially emergency measures being taken by various private and public authorities. We are living through an exceptional situation where the President has shown he may not only refuse to leave the White House, but he may use his podium to encourage his followers to create a situation where the passing of power to the new President-Elect is impossible. Trump still formally controls the army and many levers of power. He certainly may repeat his call for a mass demonstration to “Stop the Steal” on Jan. 20th.
After the Orange disgrace is safely out of the White House, and while prosecutions continue of every damn violent invader of the U.S. Congress Building that can be identified, a relaxation of private social media controls should occur.
In any case private “social media” cannot long seriously restrict Conservative and Republican opinions, since in any case new social media will evolve to fill any need. Serious negotiations about restricting Section 230 for anti-trust purposes should occur. The left and right were moving in this direction earlier.
But like the attack on 9/11, this pathetic and illegal Trumpster “insurrection” has potentially thrown us more deeply into the control of a “Security State.” This is not good ultimately for those of us (on the left) who are fighting against our government “of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.”
Checkmate.

"President Donald J. Trump Approves District of Columbia Emergency Declaration
January 11, 2021
Today, President Donald J. Trump declared that an emergency exists in the District of Columbia and ordered Federal assistance to supplement the District’s response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from the 59th Presidential Inauguration from January 11 to January 24, 2021.
The President’s action authorizes the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the District of Columbia.
Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct Federal assistance, will be provided at 100 percent Federal funding.
Pete Gaynor, Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Thomas J. Fargione as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected area."
