Radio host Rush Limbaugh lied about a recently released report by the 9-11 Commission: He falsely claimed that the report confirms Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that September 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta may have met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in April 2001. Limbaugh directly contradicted the report while purporting to summarize it.
From the June 17 broadcast of The Rush Limbaugh Show:
LIMBAUGH: The [9-11 Commission] report said that Mohamed Atta did meet with an Iraqi Intelligence Agency, or agent, in Prague on April 9th of 2001. We've known this for a long time.
From the 9-11 Commission "Staff Statement 16":
We have examined the allegation that Atta met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague on April 9. Based on the evidence available -- including investigation by Czech and U.S. authorities plus detainee reporting -- we do not believe that such a meeting occurred.
Media Matters - Limbaugh lied about 9-11 Commission report, Atta meeting in Prague
Actually, Rush Limabugh did NOT imply that the Senate report proved that Atta met with Iraqi intelligence in the Iraqi embassy... What Limbaugh said was the the evidence the Report cited did not DISPROVE, or even reasonably discredit the Czech intelligence which said Atta met with Iraqi intelligence...
The 'report' declared that because there was no CONCRETE EVIDENCE that such occured, that there was not sufficient reason to believe that it did...
Thus the report chose to give the benefit of the doubt, to Atta over the intelligence... and what was this benefit based upon? It was based upon Atta's cell phone and ATM records indicating that the cell phone and ATM card registered under the "Atta" alias were in South Florida on those days when czech intelligence said he was in Prague.
The fact is no one KNOWS... where "Atta" was on those days... in point of FACT, the cell phone and ATM card records amount to nothing more than 'intelligence' which INDICATES that the owner of those instruments was where the instruments WERE BEING USED.
As if a cell phone and ATM card can oly be used by the individual registered to them.
Now is there doubt that "Atta" met with Iraqi intelligence in Prague? Sure... But such is the nature of iintelligence... The Pro-Islamic Terrorist left simply needs to give the benefit of that doubt TO THE TERRORISTS and the anti-American (leftist) who promote the interests of those terrorists.
The simple fact is that "Insufficient evidence" to prove that something happened is NOT CONCLUSIVE evidence that it did not happen.
What do we have which suggest it did? We have Czech intelligence which says it did happen and we have the "Iraqi dimplomat" who supposedly met with Atta "... was on 22nd April 2001 expelled from the Czech Republic on the basis of activities which were not compatible with the diplomatic status." And it should be noted that those 'activities' were not related to his visit with the Terrorists Atta. This according to Czech Ambassador to the UN, Hynek Kmonicek.
So while the Left loves to project that it was "PROVEN" that Atta did not meet with Iraqi intelligence in Prague... such is not the case, or anything approaching it. This is yet another myth snatched from the pro-terrorist ether designed to undermine the US Global War on their Anti-American allies.
