Given the division in the conservative movement, the campign against the RINOs (who actually espouse the historically traditional values of the GOP) by the rather extremist elements of the conservative movement, wouldn't it make more sense for the RINOS to just jump ship and join the Democratic party?
After all, the American political parties have no definitive ideology - they have always been camilions. The Republicans originally were liberal elitists - with sunstantial business support. The Democrats were the conservatives. (back in 1860)
If the extremist of the Conservatve movement want to kick everyone, who does conform to there ideas, out of the GOP - let them. The Democratic party is an umbrella party - conservatives, moderates and everyone except wingnuts are welcome (regular nuts are welcome, just not wingnuts).
You don't have to vote for a liberal just because he/she is a democrat:
By letting the wingnuts have the GOP - and by joining the Democratic party - the GOP would become obsolete and the Democratic party would be forced to the center.
Eventually, with the GOP defunct and the Democratic party split between centrist and liberals, the Democratic party would split and we'd be back to two sane political parties again.
It would not be the first time in American history that one party became obsolete, then the only existing party eventually split.
Think about it.
