A reminder of why we voted for trump

The destruction resulting from these natural phenomena is not about party affiliation. Politicians spend money where they think it will do them the most good politically. Often, the mundane needs of the infrastructure take a back seat to more conspicuous spending on "free" stuff, that actually buys votes.

I have no illusion that Republican leadership in California would have made a great deal of difference in preparedness for these semi-predictable fires.

It will be interesting to see the changes that occur as people inevitably try to re-build in these posh neighborhoods. Will banks want to lend them money to build? Will insurers go along with it? Will the property still be as valuable when the neighborhood is mostly burned-out hulks?

The only way repubs could have saved LA was by getting elected in place of woke democrats like Bass and Newsome

But if the voters want the same stupid no-water-for-fires, no brush clearing controlled burn offs, no money to repair fire equipment, then yes, the result would be the same

Hopefully the fires have made an impression on enough voters to fix those mistakes even it it takes a democrat with more common sense than libs normally have to do it

Could someone remind me, since the Federal government owns over 50% of the land in California...

Who would be responsible for Santa Monica Recreation National Park and Angeles National Forest upkeep?

Force the state to go on a massive common-sense infrastructure program for wildfires, water and energy to start for any money.

The Democrats are incapable of protecting the public where we need it most

Well, for the most part, it was a lost cause. For one thing, water isn't a great fire suppressant. It takes a lot of water to smother out a raging fire. Everything there was super dry. And the firefighters are just shooting water at the fire they see on the outside, the real fire is going on inside and until that is put out, it will just keep burning. Most of the time, they were struggling just to keep it spreading from a burning house to an adjacent non-burning house.

Then thousands of embers started blowing in from another direction and set the other house on fire anyway.

Didn't help they had inadequate water and inadequate fire trucks and turned away thousands of firefighters. The time to fight these fires is BEFORE they get out of control. Not when half of LA is burning to the ground.

The dems could have done much more

Controlled burns are necessary to limit and slow down the spread of fires that start

Having enough water to put out fires quickly before they spread and get out of hand is paramount

Which means no empty water reservoirs, which the $750,000 a year LA water czar in high heels failed to do

I meant to say that. They need effective forest management to keep dead underbrush and stuff cleaned up, firebreaks, and of course, reservoirs actually full of water next time.

Oh BTW, I also heard that California was now adding prisoners from state prisons on as firefighters to help put out the fires. :shok:

Its not the burning national forests where no houses are, its the forest fires burning up 7,000 or so homes.

I've fought forest fires where I grew up, not claiming to be an expert.

However, forest fires are like a virus. They spread. Just as a viral infection spreads and if not caught and arrested quickly become an epidemic and/or even a pandemic.

Same with forest fires.

The Democrats are incapable of protecting the public where we need it most

Its too bad that 51% of california voters embrace the woksters instead of people who make sound judgements

I'm hoping that this time around Trump can exert more control over the loony blue states and cities.

So there won't be any wildfires in the US for the next 4yrs.

I agree with that, and that the fires spread a lot faster with 75mph to 100mph Santa Ana winds.

Which is why my recommendations for CA to reduce the fire risk includes the following:

1. Build the reservoirs that the Feds gave Gavin money for, he should be prosecuted for this one.
2. Rebuild the 4 dams Gavin demolished, he should be prosecuted for this one too.
3. Revise the stupid insurance Laws CA has that caused insurance companies to cancel policies
4. Bulldoze the tops of the mountain ridges as fire-breaks and to allow maintenance & fire truck access
5. Use tanker trucks to spray salt water down the mountains to kill underbrush and vegetation.
6. Allow CHUBB to offer high-end insurance coverage, including spraying fire-resistant foam on covered homes
7. Ensure that there are adequate fire breaks between homes and brush/trees.
8. Use modern forest management methods to reduce fire potential, similar to Finland.
