The head of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Iasi, Dr. Florin Roșu, believes that a lower virulence of the Omikron strain, which the first scientific data point to, could mean the beginning of the end of the pandemic.
"According to the scientific data we have so far, the Omikron strain is much more transmissible than the Delta strain, but it seems that the virulence is much lower, which could mean the beginning of the end of the pandemic. This is achieved by the two strains reversing their dominance, and this process will take a long time, probably about a year. The Delta strain is still dominant in Romania and Europe," Florin Rosu, head of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Iasi, said Wednesday.
