I ran into an old coworker in the supermarket and he is in full-on panic mode over his 401k. I know he voted for Trump but now he is skittish about the market. I told him not to panic but he is panicking. I hope this works itself out.

Markets fluctuate. If he’d diversified some of his retirement with gold, he’d be fine. Stocks are always a gamble.

Just tell him to hold off retiring for the next year or two.

The whole world is panicking

We voted for this guy, we deserve what we get

Unacceptable and immoral. Keeping people working longer works against the nation.

Then retire right now. No skin off my nose.

So if keeping people working a little longer works against the nation, then I assume you think that a nation where nobody ever works and collects free benefits all their life works FOR the nation?

Wow how'd you equate your post with mine? I'm speaking of people who have worked until 55. At that point it'd be best if they could retire. Epic fail. Epic. The last reason to stay on is to help an employer. Very very very last.

Just reassure him that Trump will try for a third term. Sure the economy is tanking but hey, he owns Da libs!

An extra year or two working over the age of 55 is a year or two wasted in relation to one's life.

People cannot retire until they are 62 for SS and don't get Medicare until age 65. They will spend all of their retirement money on health insurance. My wife and I paid $800 a month for our medical coverage, which was about 80% of her SS retirement at 65. The only reason it was not more was because it was COBRA.

Perhaps we need to lower the SS and medicare ages.
