A cause worth fighting for.

Burning wood for heat is also primitive, but those evening fires are very cheery. :)

If I ever lose power for a significant time in the middle of our BRUTAL Midwest winters, My wood stove will keep me, and probably a few of my neighbors, from freezing to death.

Technology sometimes fails. Fire doesn't.

I`m happy and I`m a retired factory worker. If one needs wealth to be happy, they have a serious problem.

Back in the day I heated my whole house including water burning newspaper logs.

I heat with oil and propane with a wood stove back up. I am currently investigating pellet boilers. With the cost of fossil fuel in WA, I can replace it and save about $4K a year in fuel costs after the initial outlay for the equipment.

I can't relate as I'm still working at 85. A modicum of wealth makes life much easier. You don't worry and others don't worry about you. However, I worry about my kids and want to leave them something more than my corpse. :omg:

Leave them yer debt.

Leave them yer debt.
Our father left us with his funeral bill. Leaving something was virtually unknown in my family. My late brother changed that and so will I. My father did inherit the house he grew up in as he stayed there and cared for my grandmother for years after his grandfather died. If not she would have lost the house as she had no substantial income. However, what he gained from the value of the house was used up by the time he died, virtually penniless. My brother, sister, and I paid for his funeral.

We did that for a while.

One nostalgic thing I forgot was us kids getting the chore of making the logs. It sure got tiresome.

I had to stop when we did some remodeling that took the chimney out of service. However, soon after I installed a nice fireplace which also will heat the entire house, sans water of course, while I have a fire going. For years I cut wood, with a $20 permit, in one of our state forests. However, the drive is too much for me now and I buy firewood from a local dealer.

Shown is wood that I cut from 'up nort'.

Splitting was easy with this electric splitter. Sorry for the sideways picture.

My Dad was a soldier and civil servant all of his life, and the military buried him just as they will me.
