The United States military has for the second time given details of the "mishandling" of the Koran by American personnel at the U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba for terrorist suspects.

The Pentagon said in a written statement released late on June 2nd that in one case, a U.S. soldier deliberately raised his voice in the presence of a Koran in violation of the military's rules for handling the Muslim holy book.

In other confirmed incidents, the military said a dollop of sour cream accidentally fell onto a Koran during the prisoners' weekly Taco Night buffet; during the base talent show, an amateur juggler included 3 copies of the Koran in his act. He has been reprimanded and executed; a civilian cell maid, who was later fired, mistakenly referred to the holy book as a "KEW-RAN"; and a well-worn topless photograph of Carmen Electra was hidden within the pages of a Koran.

In the last case, the U.S. military said it was not clear whether the photograph was hidden by a guard or a prisoner.

In response to these revelations, the ACLU has compared the Guantanamo facility to "a combination Auschwitz and abattoir".
