I’m watching some of my peers that have apparently become wannabe Walter-Mitty freedom fighters for Ukraine. I remember these individuals from decades ago, and their roots are similar to mine. I don’t recall them for being political. I played on sports teams with some of them and in rock bands with others. If I go back to the Woodstock> Carter> Reagan “dream time” my mind is filled with wonderful memories of these people. They are stitched into the fabric of my life whether I agree with their views today or not.

Everything that makes us what we are today is part of what we were long ago, and we become the fractal image of the sum total of what we learned on our journey. Even if I try, I cannot let anger enter my heart when I see these people today. The burning question: How can these people see the world so differently than I do? I know things are processed in different ways and life experiences are boss in some important outcomes, but logic should settle confusion, and reality, though tattered and tired, should win the race. This is what justifies us as the biggest brain in this world.

If I use ridicule, which I am very good at, it is not received well, and an anger response leads the parade like a grand marshal. I have read many important books-Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 etc. These works are coming alive in my lifetime, and I recognize that. It is not recognized by about half of our current population.

I have learned the lesson that you have to say what you see, not what you are told to see-even if you could lose something they threaten to take away from you. The real question people need to ask today is why are they threatening me if I do not think as they do? This is a big question, and the people of Ukraine are under a locked regime disguised as a fledging democracy. Is half the world fooled or is that half just afraid of what they could lose if they are exposed as fooled?

If supporters of false freedom are so convinced of the righteousness of playing wargames, they should bid their families goodbye, sell their assets, buy their own weapons and go fight for what they think is right. But they do not do that. They want to lead from behind while they travel the world on cruise ships and airplanes. Any real war misery is far away for them and would be inconvenient for their late life enjoyment.

These people, mostly Baby Boomers, bask in the glory of freedom they played no part in fighting for and post pictures of themselves on websites eating foreign food, gawking at foreign cultures, and using foreign plumbing. They hate the current president for calling for accountability in government that makes them fat and happy.

I apologize for these people. We are not all like that.

Hell, none of my BB peers are like that.

Mostly they are just concerned with "two feet down and a heartbeat" type of things and keeping the politicians from stealing from them what they earned over 50+ years of work.

OP must have hung around the wrong kind of people. ;)

Zelensky nationalizes TV news and restricts opposition parties

I think a lot of them forgot what they learned in school from survivors of the Great Depression. They drank their beer, ate their bugers, played golf and became liberal. So what is happening is creeping up on their children and gandchildren and they just go with it.

Maybe it's true for all generations, but for the Baby Boomers, the ones who got all the attention were NOT TYPICAL. They were an aberration.

Most of us were not hippies, we did not go to college just to drink at frat parties, go to anti-war demonstrations, smoke dope, and ****. We were NOT at Woodstock, never went surfing, and never owned a VW microbus.

We were too busy working, earning money for college and TO LIVE ON, going into the service, and spending our modest means on mundane things like putting ourselves through college (which was possible in those days), having a drink at the local bar, supporting local professional sports teams, and starting a family.

Today, those two sides of the culture coin are the Left and the Right, respectively.

We finally got the President we have wanted for a long, long time.

I knew things were different in 1952 when I entered first grade. 40 kids and not enough desks for everyone.

That could be your problem. You're reading too many dystopian books. Back off a little and let your brain cool off some. It's overheating again.
