Yeah, it's bad these days. Housing is #1 priority, too.
Then comes utilities and food.
Would you believe when I was young, 1 weeks' work covered housing, and the next covered utilities and food?
Then the next 2 were yours to save or spend. Somehow that still applies for me, but I'm sure it does not for many younger than me. They're getting a raw deal. It was even better for those that came before me.
I don't think I would be able to buy my house today at it's current value and today's interest rates.

Don't worry. All of the minorities and illegals living free collecting government welfare are having plenty of kids to make up the difference!

Just imagine this country when all that is left are people collecting benefits and no one is actually working and producing anymore!
It's in our future....either that a or we will see a paradigm shift ( and not a gradual one either ) to a collectivist state that runs slave labor in return for permission to exist...

I think it's great, and mother nature, or the rich people who run the planet, who have by design made it undesirable to have kids. It certainly seems like the right time. In 1970 we had 4 billion people now we have 8? That's too much. We need to slow it down. It's not even debatable although Republicans will tell you we can still fit all humans in Texas as if that means something.

They talked about this on Bill Maher. In Russia they said they are encouraging people to have sex at work on breaks.

Here's a bunch of other countries trying to get people to have kids. EW. No one wants them.

And I don't buy it that "kids don't want to bring kids into a world where..." BULLSHIT! My brother can afford to send his kids to private school and live in a safe area. Do young people realize there's no better time to be alive in human history? I think they do. And kids just don't fit into the equation. College, home, toys, fun, retirement $. That's it.

So do you want young people working and having kids? Can't have both.
Seriously? Are you being sarcastic? Ever since the 70’s both parents have worked and had kids, ever hear of daycare?

No we are not, by most every standard the next generations will have it worse than their parents. So quit lying.

Hey, that was true for my generation (Gen X). We were the first to not do as well as our parents. NOW you're saying this to me? Dude, you're preaching to the choir.

My dad didn't graduate highschool and got a job at Ford. Was able to retire with a pension after 20 years. If I would have gone to Ford when I graduated at 17, I would be retired now for 7 years now. With a 30 year pension. And great benefits.

This all ended on Bush's watch. When all those great manufacturing jobs went overseas. Those blue collar workers will NEVER have it as good as they did then. Not with Republicans in office.

Actually this all started with Reagan. He was the first to start breaking unions and turning a blind eye to illegal employers.

According to recent studies, while this generation (often referred to as Gen Z) may have higher employment rates and wages compared to their parents at the same age, they are also facing significantly higher costs like student loans and housing, potentially leading to a scenario where they might be considered "worse off" financially than their parents were at the same stage in life; meaning they might struggle more to achieve similar milestones like homeownership or retirement.

You just said the opposite, make up your mind then get back to us.

So they focus on the years 1963 to 2022. And they’re looking at the 36-to-40-year-old age group. And each generation, David, was better off than the previous one, including millennials. For example, by their calculations, millennials had a median household income in their late 30s that was 18% higher than the previous generation at the same age.

hat said, their study says that progress for millennials and Gen Xers was noticeably slower than for earlier generations.

The main reason? Fewer hours worked.

You know, millennials, they don’t have high rates of homeownership compared to the previous generation. But, boy, they own a lot more stocks in the era of the 401(k) and similar retirement savings plans. Second, the economists’ data suggests that intergenerational gains are picking up. Now the slowdown may well reverse itself in coming years.

It's fluid. For example, unions won big last year. So the 18 year old who lands a good union job tomorrow, will be better off than his 45 year old parents.

They forgot that in the 40's and 50's one paycheck did the trick and moms stayed home with the kids....it was a better time.
