Apple investors reject diversity proposal

feb 28 2017 On Tuesday, Apple investors overwhelmingly rejected a proposal that would have urged the company to ramp up its efforts to hire African Americans, Latinos and other people of color for its board of directors and senior management positions. As is the case at many tech companies, members of such groups have been underrepresented at Apple compared with the general population.

The vote marked the second year in a row shareholders have rejected the proposal, which called for Apple to have an “accelerated recruitment policy” to diversify its leadership ranks. Because it received less than 6 percent of shareholder votes this year, Apple can block it from appearing on its proxy ballot next year, supporters noted.

Only 4.91 percent of shares were voted in favor of the diversity proposal, according to Zevin and Maldonado. Investors representing some 95.09 percent of Apple shares voted against it.

Apple representatives did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. But in the proxy statement the company sent to investors in January, it urged shareholders to reject the proposal, arguing that it was already taking significant steps to diversify its workforce and help train women and minority workers for jobs in tech. It also argued that it already releases detailed information about the diversity of its workforce.

As a half Indian I think your worries about us are overblown

Most of us speak English long before we even thought about coming to teh states

And once you give up caste there is very little reason not to just act like a secular white guy in the west.

Unless the guy has a little statue of Vishnu or Shiva or something, probably more than willing to assimilate and let his children do so as well.

The Chinese have a lot more thinking to do. China really is a peer in 2017 and there are directly conflicting interests all over the place. And there is no convenient metric like religion to gauge them by.

If anything, the fact that Indians, Chinese, and Jews can excel in science. The fact that black people are in NBA. It shows that US are in general "fair". That's what I admire about american people. But why discriminate against white?

Why expect every race to perform equally well on average? That simply doesn't make sense. When will blacks have as much chance as Chinese? Well, when their IQ average is 107, just like typical east asian, which is not going to happen.

Let's face it. All those achievements require IQ whether you like it or not.

Most whites are in the middle. The nordic have like 100 average IQ. The east asians are 107. And the jews fly to the roof with 120 (for aszkenazi). Hei, you're more prosperous than chinese. So not bad. I won't expect that to stay that way forever. It didn't always happen in history. But not bad. Not bad. Very good actually.

It's pointless since Indian Business Visas are replacing everyone else anyway.
They're even replacing Chinese Business Visas.

I have a 145 IQ and I have no interest in MENSA.
Most of the Indian Business Visas I have met since the late 90s have pretty low IQs.
Most of them don't even know SQL even though they have Master's Degrees from their Indian Universities.
It's a cheap labor game.

I'd have to agree.....Affirmative Action sucks. To hire a certain number of minorities, just to have minorities on the payroll is a ridiculous and outdated practice. Hire only the most qualified based on education and experience......NOT race or ethnicity.
