9 dead in mass shooting in Austria.....but......gun control?

I checked for another thread and didn't find one....if so, get the mods to merge.

At least 10 people were killed in a shooting at a high school in Austria’s second-largest city, Graz, on Tuesday, police said, and several were seriously injured. Gun violence is rare in Austria, and residents and politicians expressed shock over the attack.

The shooter also killed himself, said Gerald Ortner, director of police for the state of Styria, of which Graz is the capital. The shooter, a 21-year-old local man, was previously unknown to the authorities, Ortner said.

I have to wonder if all the publicizing we do about this stuff does not put thoughts in people's minds.

Before Tuesday’s attack, Austria had two public mass shootings since 2000, compared with 119 in the same period in the United States, according to Jason R. Silva, a member of the Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium at the Rockefeller Institute of Government. Neither of those two shootings in Austria occurred at a school.

Yeah...gun control doesn't work in Europe ...

Weapon control is not functioning at all in the USA - or how else do you explain that your superstupid president Donald Trump needs thousands of weapons including soldiers on "reason" to rule the USA?

The NRA is by the way a criminal terror organisation. Since decades the NRA eliminates every young politicians who likes to establish better weapon laws in the USA.

...

And now some facts in this case: In Austria exist lots of weapons. This is the first school massacre in Austria as far as I know. And you should know that school massacres are an US-American "invention" which swapped from your country to Europe. One more reason to let flow your tears - what you will not do because of your own sick education.

In this case it had happened the first time that someone with a so called "drivers license for guns" (he had two licensed weapons) did do such a massacre including suicide.

Currently are 11 people dead - including the 21 year old assassin (=in German "Meuchelmörder"). Some are heavy wounded and no one knows currently the correct number of all wounded persons. In case of school massacres everyone has to be very careful with information on reason not to wake wordwide anyone who is in a similar situation and to bring this person to the idea to do the same. (Nachahmungstäter, copycat offenders)

So let us concentrate on the victims, their relatives and friends. If possible pray for them - or ask Mother Mary or any other Saint from whatever religion for help if you don't know what to pray or how to pray.

God’s angels never yield,
they are with me eternally.
When I sleep, they watch,
when I go forth,
when I stay,
they carry me in their hands.

This school massacre ...and all school massacres...could've/could be prevented by absolute security.
Absolute security protects absolutely.
No need for Second Amendment.

Nothing is perfect. Absolute security not exists. Austria is one of the 10 most secure countries in the world. The deeper is now the shock in Austria. God be with Graz and whole Austria.

Sure. Gun deaths are 1/100 as bad as the US over there which means there is nothing we can do here except bury our kids.

In 2008 in Austria 8 people had been murdered with guns. In 2016 17 people had been murdered with guns.

In the USA died in 2014 12,400 people because of gun shots and in 2021 it had been about 21,000.

In Missisippi died in 2020 more than 28 people per 100,000 people because of guns - in Massachusetts it only had been 3.7 people per 100,000 inhabitants in the same year.

It's not so easy to compare such numbers.

But I heard an old man who lost a long time ago his child and who said: "It is wrong. Time not heals such wounds."

It the frequency. Europe has gun attacks but they are far more rare...

More Guns, More Gun Deaths, More Mass Shootings...

That's becoming less the case.

And I'm pretty sure Sweden now holds the record for domestic bombings in the western world.

Nope......in 249 years of gun murder in the United States, we don't come anywhere close to the murder of 15-20 million Europeans in just 6 years at the hands of their governments....our 2nd Amendment prevents that kind of slaughter.

249 years of gun murder in the U.S........around 2,490,000 million gun murders.....

Europe, between 1939-1945 between 15-20 million innocent men, women and children murdered by their governments...not casualties of war......they were rounded up, marched into forests and camps and murdered....

So the ability to own and carry guns has kept the U.S. from experiencing that level of slaughter over here.....

You have nothing to be proud about.

I'm not proud - although I did not murder 17.49 million - 22.49 million people. The theme here is it that a young man - looking more like a young small boy - felt out of our perspective. No one officially noticed his extreme desperation or hate-sickness or whatever other extreme psychological situation which led in the end to this chaotic mass-murder. No one knows in the moment what Austria had been able to do to avoid such a situation. No one knows what mistakes had been made and/or what other kind of rules or modes of action had been better. Dominating is now in the moment a deep sadness. And we here in our region admire the Austrians very much - specially the Austrians in Graz - because everyone of them tries to help each other.

The good message now: None of the wounded are currently in acute mortal danger. Thanks to everyone who prayed and prays for them.

Its easy to get a gun in Austria. Just like the US. ...

It is not the same. He owned legally two weapons and was tested whether he knows everything about how to handle this guns - so no one is able to be hurted unintentionally. (“Place ammunition and weapons in different locations” for example). And he had to make also a psychological test under the presence of a psychologist if It is correct what I heard. He got the lincense called in Austria "drivers license for guns".

Psychological tests are able to fail. When they fail in most cases someone gets not a good result so he gets no license on not any real existing reason. Not nice but no risk for no one. Here had happened the second kind of error: He got the license although he had not to get it. Perhaps this has to do with that he looked more like an innocent sensitive boy than a barbarian swashbucklar.

Another problem with psychological tests is it that the concrete content of the test should be unknown to the tested person. More easy example: Someone makes an IQ test - then he is able to train with lots of tests. This is not bad because it is just simple a training how to make such a test. But no one should know the concrete items of the final test which is used for the measurement - otherwise the test is not able to give a correct result.

Meaningless word salad.

And no one is asking those questions. They just want to use this to take away guns.
