80s retro

I like Billy's stuff. I have all of it.
I'm serious...The guy had great pipes.

And when you consider the wimps like Christopher Cross, Barry Manilow, and Michael Bolton, who were dominating that genre at the time, Billy could have had some big time Sinatra-esque crossover appeal.

I agree, he was a showman back then. Some good live concerts are on YT. In fact, I looked for some of the good ones that I've seen before when you brought him up and jogged my memory. He had an entertaining backup crew, too, and he always made them a part of the show within his show, if that makes sense. Kind of the way Elvis did with his backups.

The Eighties were arguably the best decade of my life. I loved that period. The music, the TV shows (Miami Vice, Crime Story), a terrific President (Ronald Reagan), a terrific sense of optimism (I was a newlywed with my first home purchase).
What a delightful time.

I was a teen for most of the 80s so it was a different experience for me. But it was a great time to be alive regardless. i had a blast. Had my forst job. My first car. Stuff like that. You're right. In terms of society, at least in my teen world, and for the most part across the adult world so far as I could tell, everybody was happy, everybody got along, everybody had money in their pocket, a car, everybody had a job.

Flipping through the music threads, I noticed that nobody remembered Phil Collins 75th birthday. I tell ya. Some people...

Anyway, this little banger was the first song that played on the radio on my first car. I didn't have any tapes yet...

Phil was definitely totally 80s. He had a great sound.

I really liked Mike Rutherford as well. . . .

When I was kid I always wondered what the inspiration for this song was.
