74 miles of wall, $1.6 billion

Border Wall Construction Will Cost $1.6 Billion for Work to Start Next Year

"As part of their annual budget, the agency requested $1.6 billion for 32 miles of new border wall system and 28 miles of new levee wall in the Rio Grande Valley, on the eastern side of the border, as well as 14 miles of secondary border wall system in the San Diego sector, on the western side. "

Okay, so, 1,933 miles, at $1.6 billion per every 74 miles of wall = $41 billion. For a wall. And that doesn't include upkeep costs.

This must be fake news, since the Mexicans are going to pay for the wall.

Barry Hussein sent that much in boxcars of cash to Iran to seal the craziest deal in history and the hypocrite left didn't seem to care about the cost.

$41 billion for a wall that won’t work, $41 billion for fear, ignorance, bigotry, and hate.

Vs

There are approximately 3.7 million unlawful immigrant households in the U.S. These households impose a net fiscal burden of around $54.5 billion per year.

The Fiscal Cost of Unlawful Immigrants and Amnesty to the U.S. Taxpayer

This report estimates the annual costs of illegal immigration at the federal, state and local level to be about $113 billion; nearly $29 billion at the federal level and $84 billion at the state and local level. The study also estimates tax collections from illegal alien workers, both those in the above-ground economy and those in the underground economy. Those receipts do not come close to the level of expenditures and, in any case, are misleading as an offset because over time unemployed and underemployed U.S. workers would replace illegal alien workers.

I'll take the wall any day.

But the wall doesn't stop these immigrants necessarily getting into the country.

Demographics of Immigrants in the United States Illegally - Illegal Immigration - ProCon.org

59% of illegal immigrants are from Mexico. That's 6.7 million. 1.17 million come from Asia. They are not going to be stopped by any wall. 1.78 are from Central and South America, I'd also assume those from South America are not going to be stopped by a wall. How did they get into the country? Probably by airplane. Walls don't stop airplane unless you build them high enough.

"Here in Miami, many come with legitimate visas and overstay. This is a relatively well known, "

"Many that come just overstay their visas. "

"Contrary to the popular image, about 40% actually come by air, enter with student or tourist visas which they over-stay."

This is the problem. What does the wall actually do?

Fewer immigrants are entering the U.S. illegally, and that’s changed the border security debate

An article from May 2015. Yes, before Trump got in claiming to have changed everything instantly.

"Fewer immigrants are entering the U.S. illegally, and that’s changed the border security debate"

"
Monica Camacho-Perez came to the United States from Mexico as a child, crossing into Arizona with her mother in the same spot where her father made the trip before them. “Nobody stopped us,’’ Camacho-Perez, now 20, said of her 2002 journey.

Three years ago, her uncle tried to cross the border and join the family in Baltimore, where they remain illegal immigrants. He was stopped three times by the U.S. Border Patrol and jailed for 50 days.

“He doesn’t want to try anymore,” said Camacho-Perez. “Now, it’s really hard.”"

Why does the US need this wall? Well, it doesn't. So this isn't $41 billion that's going to stop the US govt from spending $54 billion. It's $41 billion that will do relatively little.
Actually it does stop them. When you can't climb the wall or get under it then you give up. It won't stop ALL but will stop majority and its better to have a wall than to just allow them to walk right on in.

The majority? Really?

How many of those who end up becoming illegal immigrants, cross the border illegally in the first place?

Erm, are you kidding?

All of them? That's kind of the definition of an illegal immigrant.

Wait, am I talking to a far left regressive who believes there are no borders and everyone is a legal citizen of the world?

The definition of illegal immigrant is someone who is in the country illegally. You can enter the country legally, then overstay your visa. Jeez. I even put that in a previous post.

In this you are correct (as unusual as it is).

There are even more of those who overstay their VISAS and thus become illegals, but most of them leave very quickly afterwards and are thus not as much of a problem. None of this means that the wall will be any less effective in stopping the rest.

Obama spent 800 billion on his stimulus mostly consisting of infrastructure. You didn't have one complaint.

I think we can afford the great wall... take it as a stimulus for the economy. At least it's actually needed and productive spending.

I didn't have one complaint? Really? Do you know me that well that you know I didn't have one complaint?

I think this is the third time in two days people have told me what I think, and the third time they're wrong.

Productive spending? Really?

The wall will pay itself back very quickly. Illegals use a lot of welfare...

HAve you read ANYTHING I've written?

Building a wall to keep out undesirables, is not fear or hate, it is good governance.

YOu calling it fear and hate, is you spreading division and hate.

By lying and claiming that a reasonable political position is "hate", you create a moral framework that justifies violent reaction to those you define as monsters.

Yes, it's all "LOOK HERE, I HAVE A OTHER UNRELATED PROBLEM". Completely irrelevant. The wall is one of the soundest infrastructure investments in the history of America. It's almost criminal that no one thought of it before. They were probably afraid of being labelled racists. But past are those times, now we have someone with balls, finally.

Actually, the legal entry staying late, only a few years ago, became the majority path for the illegal. Before that, is was to physically cross the southern border, and stay.

And thus, considering the tens of millions of illegals in this country, the majority are border crossers.

How does letting illegals come here help that?

Some day.....maybe......the fact that so-called illegals hold labor costs down AND contribute to our tax base, will finally sink in even to conservatives.

Wait, I thought you wanted higher wages for the poor? Nope, the poor should be held down by big corporations and be offered Mexican wages.

Ah, the leftist fight against the poor continues.

FYI, they are illegals, not "so called" illegals.

Ah, the leftist fight against the poor continues. I prefer to call the "so-called" illegals, just illegals, because that is what they are.

I hope you're not too "offended' since most native Americans would call YOU an illegal prick. LOL

They can call me whatever they want, but the fact is that I am not an illegal.

Facts, you really have a problem with those.

An immigrant is not ‘illegal’ until such time as he has been found guilty in a court of law if entering the country absent authorization, or remaining in the country after that authorization has expired.

That one is undocumented doesn’t mean he’s ‘illegal,’ as he may be a refugee seeking asylum in accordance with immigration law.

All persons in the United States are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and have the right of due process of the law, including those undocumented.

In addition to being a monument to fear, ignorance, bigotry, and hate, Trump’s idiotic wall is also a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Did your Marxist professor spoon feed you this wiffle-waffle?

What next? Murderer is not a murderer until found guilty in the court of law. Ah, I better not give these morons any new ideas.

They're ******* illegal the moment they get here or fail to leave when they are supposed to. It's not that hard to understand.

Completely not true. It's wasting money on a project that doesn't need to be built, doesn't do the job effectively, and is only there to keep people like you happy.

No one thought of it before because no one has ever got into office before who decided to pander to the alt-right and their desire for pointless nonsense that they can use to dance around the camp fire singing "we won, kill the libtards".

Your argument seems to be "it's good", and nothing much to back it up with.

Except that we want to see wages RISE for Americans.

Sure as costs rise, wages MUST rise......

Want your roof fixed without the so-called illegals....Your cost will quadruple

Want your lettuce in your grocery store to cost $5, ban the so-called illegals,

Want your roads' potholes fixed without the so-called illegals, then pay $8 per gallon of gasoline.

Should I go on???
