If indeed they were hostile and speeding towards the US. To get to the US they'd have to pass by many other island nations first. No one can know what their destination was and if they were indeed carrying drugs. It is impractical for small boats to be making such long trips in the first place.

LOL. No comparison. Having military members getting ill from COVID or even dying would adversely affect the military readiness. They were required to do so. trump has a prolonged naval blockade going on in Venezuela ( costing US $18 million dollars a day. ) without Congressional approval. That's as illegal as hell. It would be simpler , safer and cheaper to just buy the drugs. If the US made these drugs legal then we wouldn't have these problems at all.
