46.9% Of Eligible Voters Didn't Vote In The Election

Just saw on MSNBC.

Unbelievable.

This is absolutely astonishing.

Exactly how did they arrive at that number?

I'm assuming this:

Voting Turnout Statistics - Statistic Brain

According to you link it would be 44.4% didn't vote, not 46.9.

Did you see 89% of registered dems went for Trump?

90% of republicans went for Trump.

I find those numbers even more amazing.

Also if you boil down their numbers 88.1% of registered voters voted.

You know what, those figures are based on CNN exit poll data. We're gonna have to wait for the actual results.

I didn't notice that, they really fucked up the rest of the numbers in their projections.

What are their demographics? Poor? Uneducated? Low-information voters?

I expected a record low turnout when our two main parties each ran the most loathsome candidates in living history which is why I was surprised by such a surge of voters from certain demographics.

Not sure, looking for a link...
I'm sure this election will be as well analyzed as the 1960 election in the book "Making of a President".

my son did not vote...something i dont say with pride at all....he said he would not vote for any of them and just drove on by the polling place...smh

How an eligible voter voluntarily declines to vote in such a consequential election is a total mystery to me.

The candidates were shit
It doesn't have anything to do with that. Half of eligible voters not voting is typical. This year was actually a high turn out. Remember the long lines?

This is something we need to work on, getting people to vote.
True. OTOH, when we have a lot of LW celebrities (and members of this forum) screaming that voting for a 3rd party candidate was "throwing your vote away", many voters, disliking both candidates, seem to have chosen to stay home.

MSNBC??? Uh, is there a link from a more, uh, reliable source?
Americans neared a voter-turnout record — here's how 2016 compares to past elections
The data available Thursday afternoon show over 131 million ballots had been counted, according to the United States Elections Project — just below the all-time high.

While results were still trickling in, and the overall turnout could end up being higher, that preliminary total suggests that only 57% of eligible voters actually voted this year.

It would be 99% were it not for those suppressive voter ID laws.

Given the low standard of both candidates I'm not in the least bit suprised.
Yea but let's be honest here. Who didn't show up? All the people who fear a trump presidency. The dumb sobs. Women, blacks, Hispanics and the young and Arabs.

And hillary got more votes than trump from all these groups but where Obama got 65% of their votes hillary only got 55%. Or Obama had 95% of the black vote and hillary got 90% but not as many showed up.

And white America showed up for trump.

I don't know why we divide ourselves into groups. We are all just Americans.
