There is an article in American Digger magazine (forget which issue, but I think it was from 2019-2020), in which a few people with metal detectors searched the site and found pieces of the plane, and associated artifacts. It was a good read.

I guess it's a generational thing.

I was only 8 years old when Hendrix and Joplin died. I honestly have zero recollection of their passing

I was 15 when the Skynyrd plane crashed, and remember reading about it in Newsday...

I don't remember that, but I was 12 and living in SC not Iowa. I didn't pay much attention to the national news when I was 12.

I dedicated this one to my son in 1973 when it came out he was 2.
When he came off his navy ship back from Iraq I had requested this song and as he was walking off the ship it came on. He said 'he knew it was from me first 3 notes'. We were both surprised my dedication got played.
I was against that war but of course we have no say in it.
