I lived for many years without credit, paying all my bills with cash. And my credit score was in the gutter. And then I got hit with tax liens and then an unpaid medical bill – about the worst possible thing to do even though the bill was fraudulent. I also got stuck in a loan contract with a business later put out of business by the Feds. It's been a long, long haul trying to recover and I'm still not close. Rule Number One: reduce your credit load (other than your homes or necessary vehicles) as quickly as possible.

Rule Number Two: Always pay your monthly purchases in credit in full and keep paying down the principal.

Rule Number Three: Don't give up.
