I guess since the area sits on a giant slab of granite even little quakes are felt.

I'm just surprised earthquakes are legal in NJ.

Oh well.

North America is being pushed tectonically into a smaller and smaller window of space on Earth's surface due to the growth of both the Atlantic and Arctic oceans. The result of that will be more mountains, and more earthquakes.

I find it interesting that there is a relative line of earthquakes in recent days that is not corresponding to fault lines: N. of Japan, china, pakastan, west of portugal, NJ, Kansas, Nevada, then northern california. Maybe to top of the planet is about to blow off.

A 3.0 magnitude quake hit suburb of Hasbrouck Heights as residents in Brooklyn reported feeling the tremors

A small earthquake rattled the New York metropolitan area on Saturday night.

By comparison, the Loma Prieta Quake of 1989 was a 6.9 (Gail and I lived out 35th Avenue and Balboa at the time), the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 was a 7.9.A 3.0 earthquake is typically not strong enough to cause any damage – but tremors that mild are somewhat rare in the north-eastern US.

Here in the Bay Area, a 3.0 is barely worth reporting. I know for those who've never experienced a quake, it can and does scare the shit out of you.

My first quake was in 1967, Dad and I had to brace the bookcase. Mom was pissed that that she lost all of her Wedding China. The quake did not last that long, it however trigger my older sister's epilepsy (Grand Mal) and she a week in Kaiser.

I think there was one in VA in 2012 or so and then another one in NJ a few years

I have never experienced an earthquake at least that I was aware of. Daughter lives in California and has experienced many. She enjoyed them until the Loma Prieta quake--she was in college in Palo Alto at the time. That one was scary enough for her she no longer enjoys them.

California is on the, "Ring of Fire". As is Japan, part of China but I do not know about Pakistan. Sometimes here in the Bay Area we what is called, "Earthquake Weather". Hot and muggy. This year, the Bay Area has experienced the coldest Summer since 1965 a year before my Dad moved us out here. Our summer begins in September. It last a month or two before the rainy season starts.

I’m in jersey. I didn’t notice

Wouldn't be the first time the New Jersey-New York metropolitan area has experienced tremors or earthquakes.

We had an earthquake centered in southern Illinois that we felt in Central Kentucky back in 2007 or so. I was sitting eating breakfast when I heard a rumbling sound, and at first, I thought a train had derailed on the tracks near my house. My wife wondered what the noise was. I told her I thought we were having an earthquake. I looked up and saw our light fixture swaying and opened my back door to hear the sound was coming from all around and not from the tracks. I think it registered 3.2 on the scale. It hit before most people were up and many slept through it.
