A previously healthy model from Florida has been in hospital fighting for her life after suffering a heart attack earlier this month. Claire Bridges, 20-years-old, was admitted to Tampa General Hospital on January 16th with severe leg pain and was diagnosed with myocarditis, rhabdomyolysis, mild pneumonia, cyanotic and acidosis. A few hours after being admitted, her heart stopped.

Two weeks ago, Claire’s health rapidly deteriorated when her heart and other organs were impacted. She was quickly put in ICU on life support. Her father, Wayne, said about the ordeal:




Wayne received a call from the ICU doctor saying CPR was being administrated because his daughter’s heart had stopped. Over the span of an hour and a half, the 20-year-old had to be revived two more times. Doctors and surgeons worked together to come up with the next course of action for her heart and other organs.

The next morning, she was placed on a Tandem Heart and additional life support. And only a few hours later, she was placed on continuous dialysis because of her failing kidneys.

While all of this was going on, pressure was building in her legs, not allowing blood to flow. Ultimately, it was decided the damage to her legs was too severe and irreversible — they needed to be amputated. Both her legs were surgically removed on Friday.

Yes. When some new viral thing comes along and seems to affect a large part of the population, the medical communities, organizations, and doctors all try known effective drugs against such type of infection before getting to the point of having to create a brand new vaccine.

OR

The medical communities and doctors try all known effective drugs against such types of infections WHILE AND DURING the time it takes for drug developmental labs and testing labs develop something that will effectively deal with the disease and leave the human unaffected.

NEITHER of these events occurred.

Write-up: After being observed for approximately 20 minutes and patient walked to her car without assistance I was called to assess the patient in the parking lot for troubles breathing. EMS was called as I made my way outside. Upon my arrival patient was leaning out of the car and stating that she could not breath. She was able to tell me that she was allergic to penicillin. Oxygen was immediately placed on the patient with minimal relief. Lung sounds were coarse throughout. She then began to vomit about every 20-30 seconds. Epipen was administered in the right leg with no relief. Patient continued to complain of troubles breathing and vomiting. A second epipen was administered in the patients right arm again with no relief. A few minutes later patient was given racemic epinephrine through the oxygen mask. There appeared to be mild improvement in her breathing as she appeared more comfortable, but still complaining of shortness of breath and vomiting. When EMS arrived patient was unable to transport herself to the stretcher. When EMS and clinical staff transferred patient to the stretcher she became unresponsive. She appeared to still be breathing. She did not respond to verbal stimuli. Per ED report large amount of fluid was suctioned from the patients lungs following intubation in the ambulance. When patient arrived to the ED she was extubated and re-intubated without difficulty and further fluid was suctioned. At that time patient was found to be in PEA, shock was delivered. Shortly thereafter no cardiac activity was found and patient pronounced dead.
