Its what the Party use to be a lot of different factions representing all types of Americans coming together debating and deciding on a candidate not like today's party.

Truman could never have gotten a nomination as a rube senator from Missouri. Somehow he seemed more electable after he was hand picked by the democrat committee to replace the sitting V.P. when they knew FDR would die before completing his 4th term. Truman was the heir apparent and the convention was a sham.
