1945 was pivotal for politics in America.

1. From 1933 until 1945, communism was in the ascendancy, championed by the eminently popular Franklin Roosevelt. He accepted....and rewarded.....Stalin's agents in his administration, and would no brook any criticism of 'Uncle Joe.'

This dosen't mean that attempts to institute world-wide communism began in 1933....far from it. From 1919 the Commintern, the Communist International, had its sights on control of American government. The fact is, they've pretty much attained their goals.

But today's story is about Harry S. Truman.

The 1945 Timeline:
a. Truman became vice-president on January 20, 1945. A gift from Providence, or Nature's God, as the memorializing document- the Declaration of Independence- would have put it. Had he not, Henry Wallace, well known communist dupe, would have become President.

Now....while Truman was hardly a socialist or communist when he came to Washington, biographers have documented how he came under the sway of this perspective.....and remained so until he became President.

b. Roosevelt died on April 12,1945.
Had FDR died just a few months earlier, the United States would have assumed the role of vassal to the USSR.

c. June 4, 1945, in a 15-minute meeting with General Carter W. Clarke, and Colonel Ernest Gibson, ofArmy intelligence, Truman was informed about army codebreakers working on secret cables sent from Moscow to Washington- the Venona decrypts.
"Sacred Secrets: How Soviet Intelligence Operations Changed American History," p. 111, Leona Schecter and Jerrold Schecter

The awakening began.

2. Let's see what America was up against: The Commintern, the Communist International, was founded in Moscow in March, 1919. Not far behind it, the Communist Party, USA (CPUSA) was founded in Chicago in September, 1919. While the archives are rich with their literature, they are rarely studied, as most academic historians are on the left and have little interest in revealing or discussing the revelations or machinations therein. Further, Yeltsin had declassified many documents in the 1990’s which proved that everything the anti-communists said, was true!
    1. In 1919, Executive Sec’y of CPUSA, Charles Ruthenberg, wrote the following to Moscow: “Hail to the dictatorship of the proletariat. Long live the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic. Long live the Communist International.” A loyal Soviet patriot, his ashes are buried in the wall of the Kremlin. So, is this ‘just another political party’?
    2. From the November 24, 1919 application of the CPUSA to the Commintern: “The final struggle of the communist proletariat will be waged in the United States. Our conquest of power alone assuring the world Soviet Republic! Realizing all of this, the Communist Party prepares for the struggle. Long live the Communist International, long live the world revolution!’
"Dupes: How America's Adversaries Have Manipulated Progressives for a Century" by Paul Kengor

Whether naive or a believer, the election of 1933 gave international communism their most powerful ally.....and he led the United States.

How did Harry Truman indicate that change was in the air?
Coming right up.

June 4, 1945....Truman gets to see what he's up against.....

3. "Potsdam, Germany
July 24, 1945

The Potsdam Conference, as it will be remembered, is the first time that the new Big Three are meeting since the death of Franklin Roosevelt. Joseph Stalin plays the role of entitled host, behaving as if Potsdam were now part of Russia. The tablecloth and chairs at the negotiating table are bright Russian red. Outside, in the gardens, the Russians have even planted bright red flowers in the shape of the Communist star.

As with the last meeting between Allied leaders, in Yalta, Stalin has every intention of steamrolling his guests into acceding to his demands. The ongoing American policy of accommodating the Soviets, rather than containing their growing power, plays right into his hands.

But Truman is also moving quickly to put his own stamp on American politics by replacing FDR's cabinet and trusted advisers with men he considers loyal to him. "

1. Secretary of State, James F. Byrnes:
"I did not believe Stalin grasped the full import of the President’s statement, and thought that on the next day there would be some inquiry about this “new and powerful weapon,” but I was mistaken. I thought then and even now believe that Stalin did not appreciate the importance of the information that had been given him; but there are others who believe that in the light of later information about the Soviets’ intelligence service in this country, he was already aware of the New Mexico test, and that this accounted for his apparent indifference." The History Reader - A History Blog from St. Martins Press

2. "Now, Truman thought, the United States was going to be in much, much better shape in Asia because with the bomb they would end the war. ...Truman approached Stalin at the Potsdam conference and very casually said to Stalin that he had this new weapon. Much Truman's dismay, Stalin was very passive in response and Truman did not know exactly how to interpret this.

What we know now is that Stalin knew exactly about the development of the bomb because of Soviet spies at Los Alamos in New Mexico. We also know that as soon as Stalin walked out of that room after the conversation with Truman, Stalin immediately got in touch with the man who was the director of the Soviet atomic bomb project and said that he must get to work and accelerate the project. This man immediately told Stalin that he didn't he enough room to expand Soviet labs, that the forests in the area where they were developing this project were simply too immense, at which point Stalin hung up the phone, picked it back up, dialed one of his military commanders and ordered two tank divisions immediately to go out to this area and clear away these forests. In other words, Stalin took this information that Truman had passed on to him very seriously."

4. While some apologists may opt for saying that Roosevelt was simply naive....there were far too many warnings about the pathological Joseph Stalin.

Let's bring in an expert witness:
" Few in the West had experience with the communist state and even fewer understood what motivated the Soviets. One man who had first hand knowledge was a Foreign Service officer, George F. Kennan." George Kennan and Containment - Short History - Department History - Office of the Historian

a. George Kennan’s view of Roosevelt’s performance during the war ...After commenting bitterly on the “inexcusable body of ignorance about the Russian Communist movement, about the history of its diplomacy, about what had happened in the purges, and about what had been going on in Poland and the Baltic States,” Kennan turns more directly to FDR alone:

'I also have in mind FDRs evident conviction that Stalin, while perhaps a somewhat
difficult customer, was only, after all, a person like any other person; that the reason
we hadn’t been able to get along with him in the past was that we had never really had anyone with the proper personality and the proper qualities of sympathy and imagination to deal with him, that he had been snubbed all along by the arrogant conservatives of the Western capitals; and that if only he could be exposed to the persuasive charms of someone like FDR himself, ideological preconceptions would melt and Russia’s cooperation with the West could be easily arranged.

For these assumptions there were no grounds whatsover; and they were of a puerility that was unworthy of a statesman of FDRs stature?'

Kennan calling Roosevelt a simpleton.

What term, then, should be used for those still supporting Roosevelt????

The thread began by stating that Truman represented a change, an awakening, in US policy vis-a-vis Stalin and communism......

5. "Truman possesses one presidential trait that Franklin Roosevelt lacked, and that is the poker player's ability to tell when another man is lying to him. FDR's administration was filled with men such as Wild Bill Donovan, who gained access to the president through flattery and self-promotion.

Harry Truman has no time for panderers who put their own interests before those of the American people. When one of Roosevelt's most powerful advisers, Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau Jr., threatened to resign if he wasn't allowed to attend the Potsdam Conference, Truman immediately called his bluff.

This traditional American president who dotes on his wife now grabs the elbow of Joseph Stalin, a man whose infidelities and brutality drove his wife to suicide. The two world leaders stand apart from the other attendees at the Potsdam Conference, but remain near the negotiating table.
For those who can't hear what the two men are saying, it would appear that they are simply making small talk.

In fact, what Truman is about to tell Stalin will forever change the relationship between the United States and Russia. Truman, the smooth-talking "Missouri horse trader," is determined to send a clear message: America is the true power broker at this meeting.
.... after meeting Stalin in person, Truman realizes that the dictator is not the friend to America that FDR believed him to be. Thus begins Truman's policy of taking a hard line against the Russians, and the start of the Cold War that George S. Patton has long predicted."
"Killing Patton: The Strange Death of World War II's Most Audacious General,"
by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard

Of course, this was long before the Democrat Party came to endorse the same aims as the communist party.

I love it when you make yourself look like a fool.....

....saves me the trouble of doing it.

Only, it doesn't.

Outstanding copy and paste job, politicalc...

Got any more meaningless pablum that is only propaganda and NOT based in fact, as usual?

'copy and paste' refers to the manner of presentation....not to the substance of same.

Wait...let me scour your post for evidence of "only propaganda and NOT based in fact."
Hmmm......there is no evidence....outside of you being the fool, as I posted earlier.

So...I was correct.....and now you've doubled down on appearing the fool.

OK, I’ve seen your preparatory spittle-spewing, stupidity....now for your signature move, soiling your shorts.

Can you dispute even one fact?

The acceptance of the Left as their lord and savior clearly dulls whatever limited wit they started with....

...hence, time and again, their posts boil down to "is not, is not....so there!"

that was a good article, very insightful, thanks for all of the links.

6. General George Patton was another who realized the truth about Stalin and the communists.
In fact, he recognized it from the start....and it may very well have precipitated his end....

Stalin demanded that the Allies have no contact with the anti-Nazi Germans, and, that no surrender other than unconditional be allowed: Stalin wanted no Germany that could resist the spread of his version of totalitarianism, after the war.

7. "The official American policy toward the Germans is that anyone previously connected with Nazi Germany is ineligible to help the nation rebuild. The Russians agree; in fact, this is a cornerstone of the Potsdam discussions. But Patton dissents. He speaks fearlessly about the lunacy of "denazification," telling the press that it is "no more possible for a man to be a civil servant in Germany and not have paid lip service to Nazism than it is for a man to be a postmaster in America and not have paid at least lip service to the Democratic Party or the Republican Party when it is in power."

Patton disagrees with official American policy. One disturbing element of which is that former German soldiers be used as forced labor in Russia, France, and the United Kingdom These men, Patton feels, should be used to rebuild their own country.

Germany's hospitals are no longer functional, its sewer systems don't work, the roads and bridges have been bombed, and there are millions of former POWs and displaced persons who will need shelter and food once winter comes.

So with words that put him directly at odds with the policies of his president, Patton tells a reporter that German labor is the solution to rebuilding Germany — whether or not someone was once a Nazi. He says, "My soldiers are fighting men and if I dismiss the sewer cleaners and the clerks[,] my soldiers will have to take over those jobs. They'd have to run the telephone exchanges, the power facilities, the street cars, and that's not what soldiers are for."

In his own way, Patton is still fighting battles. Even as he quietly begins making plans to leave the military, he wages an ironic war in favor of the German people. "The Germans are the only decent people left in Europe. It's a choice between them and the Russians. I prefer the Germans." "Killing Patton: The Strange Death of World War II's Most Audacious General,"
byBill O'ReillyandMartin Dugard

Patton said "It's a choice between them and the Russians. I prefer the Germans."

Now before you have the knee-jerk reaction taught in government schools, actually think for once:
Can you make a cogent argument that the communist doctrine is any better than the Nazi?

Shouldn't you have asked that in school when you were studying WWII?

Germany's hospitals are no longer functional, its sewer systems don't work, the roads and bridges have been bombed, and there are millions of former POWs and displaced persons who will need shelter and food once winter comes.

No one ever thinks about the above when talking about WWII.

And...those 'displaced persons'?
Stalin wanted them allllllllll returned!

1. Joseph Stalin wanted to ensure that after the war he didn't have to contend with anti-communists in Europe. Toward that end, he demanded that the Allies give him any who had tried to escape his tyrannical rule.
Get that? Turn over enemies of Stalin to his 'tender mercies.'

a. When the Allies succumbed to Stalin's demands at Yalta, all those refugees, from generals of armies to intellectuals, Cossacks, kulaks, teachers, peasants, and workers, were to be repatriated to Stalin!

b. The 850,000 strong army of Gen. Andrei Andreyevich Vlasov, having gone to the other side, Germany, "to save their country from Stalin" and having later surrendered to US forces, "formed the core of those forcibly repatriated between 1944 and 1947."
"Operation Keelhaul; The Story of Forced Repatriation from 1944 to the Present," by Julius Epstein p.27, 53.

c. Gen. Deniken, former commanding general of the White Russian armies which were supported by the USA in 1917-1920, explained that none of these men served in the Nazi army out of love for Germany..."they hated the Germans" he wrote....rather, they knew what awaited them in the 'Soviet paradise'....as FDR's 'gift'

2. How badly did these individuals not want to go to Stalin's USSR?
From the NYTimes, January 20, 1946:
"Ten renegade Russian soldiers, in a frenzy of terror over their impending repatriation to the homeland, committed suicide today during a riot in the Dachau prison camp...."

a. And, in the Times, March 5, 1946:
" Many thousands of persons hostile to the present regime in the Soviet Union are being forcibly sent there....the Catholic Church constantly received appeals from 'displaced persons' terrified of being sent back to territory now controlled by Russia."

One cannot explain FDR's motivation as needing Stalin for the war effort....the war was over.
Yet he still bowed to Stalin's every wish.

Joseph Stalin....Paranoid and homicidal, the man that Franklin Roosevelt chose as his prom date, feared that any Russian officers captured by the Germans, and held by the Americans, would have begun to despise communism.

So he killed them.
Returning heroes, having been captured.....were killed; he demanded their return so he could put them to death.

The following, from a novel by a three-decade CIA officer, discussing exactly that period and those events.....

"Alexander relates what happened to is father, a Russian officer captured by the Germans during WWII...

"It hasn’t always been so easy for Russian soldiers to return to the great Red Army after being taken prisoner.” There was a slight shift in Alexander’s tone, signaling an about-to be-shared confidence. “What would you know about that?” Orlov asked warily. “I know what my father told me. He knew all about what happened to Russians who got themselves captured in the Great Patriotic War.”

“And I suppose you’re going to tell me about it?”

“Yes, because you should know about what happened to my father and a lot of other fine Russian officers.”

Alexander sat down on the rough bench next to Orlov. “My father was a senior lieutenant in the Red Army when he was captured by the Germans in 1941at age twenty-six, almost exactly your age. He spent more than three years in German labor camps, first in Poland and later in Germany. In early 1945 he was liberated by the U.S. Army after it crossed the Rhine, and like a lot of young Soviet Army officers he took up the fight along side the Americans as they moved toward Berlin. He was seriously wounded outside of Dresden in April 1945.

It turned out that his wounds saved his life. After the Germans surrendered, tens of thousands of Russians who, like my father, had been in labor camps, were handed over to the Soviet Army. I don’t know which threatened Stalin more, their captivity by the Germans or their exposure to the Allies after they were liberated, but his solution for these now suspect officers was a bullet in the neck or disappearance into the Gulag.

“The American armored commander gave my father a choice: go east and take his chances with the Red Army, which was almost no chance at all, or stay put and eventually return to America with him. He went to America by way of a displaced persons camp in Germany,...
“That’sall part of history now.”

“You’re probably right,”Alexander said thoughtfully. “Certainly not for someone like you, with your pedigree. But there’s a side of the Red Army—the side they still don’t mention at Frunze Academy, the side even your father won’t talk about—that is sheer terror. Tell me what they taught you about the Red Army officer corps being cut down between 1937 and 1939.” “A few disloyal officers were removed for plotting the overthrow of established authority, and . . .” Orlov paused in the middle of his textbook answer.

“Forty thousand officers were taken out behind the shed and shot in the back of the neck!”

“I’ve never heard such a number before! Nobody talks about it—not my instructors at the Frunze, not my father, nobody!” “All of these secrets will come out, Mikhail Sergeyevich. You can’t keep them dammed up much longer.” As Alexander left, he handed him a Russian language edition of Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago. “You don’t have to read this, Mikhail Sergeyevich, and please don’t think I’m using it to get you to defect. But you might find it illuminating considering what we’ve just been talking about.”
Chapter ten, "The Black Tulip."

The Bomb-he showed Uncle Joe who was in charge.

But, more than interesting, Stalin knew about the bomb before Truman did.
Which one?
