16 Senate Democrats Vote Against Fentanyl Crackdown

A very quick search provided me with Cory Booker’s statement for voting against the bill. Take from it what you will.

Your logic is lacking as per usual. Why vote against a bill if you want it lower? Why not amend the bill or submit your own bill making it lower? Want to bet that never happened? Dems are just obstructionist assholes who vote against bills just to make it harder for Republicans to accomplish anything.

When will a Dem submit a bill to lower it even further? You are just as much of a crackpot as your theory.
The Dems could not add anything to a bill and they know it. This bill started in the house and then went to Senate. Dems are strictly back of the bus, even in Senate, with Chuckie leading them. Chuckie even voted for the budget, with little discussion.

Yeah, I do lots of drugs. All prescribed by my doctors. My daughter is a paramedic and tells me about almost all of her runs because we like to talk about things like that. That's why I know so much about drugs and my own experience with my own health.
I don't but, now on Atorvastatin (for cholesterol 1 point high), and Fenofibrate for triglycerides (significantly high) and a low dose aspirin. Hard to believe I went from nothing daily or even weekly for 70 years, to taking three things daily, prescribed by a cardiologist.
I hear about the drug ODs from my son, who used to deal with them as a paramedic, but now sees them as an ER Nurse. Fentanyl is some bad mojo, not for amateurs. Even addicts that supposedly know what they're doing, screw up and OD. I hear more of it, out west. Tennessee, is really more of a crack state, I think.

There was discussion. That's why he voted for cloture for the continuing resolution. They had already voted for that level of spending when they passed it the first time! It wasn't going anywhere. Your ignorance of the processes amazes me sometimes. Did you ever watch Schoolhouse Rock's "I'm just a Bill"?

I take two anti-rejections meds, now soon to be 3 diabetes medications, aspirin because I have heart stents, a diuretic, a statin, an antidepressant that I no longer need but they won't take me off because of my long hospitalization, and a multivitamin. My daily dose of pills is about 20 in number, plus 5 insulin injections daily, but I am hopefully going to be weaning off of those soon. They were cut down about 75% after my transplant.

My daughter was offered a hospital position in their ED but she turned them down because the pay differential wasn't enough and she is an adrenaline junkie anyway. Just called me that she had a 10 police car escort to the hospital because their patient was a cop's wife who collapsed and died at home. They tried but she did not make it. Her nickname is "Black Cloud" because she gets an unusually high number of trauma cases that require Life Flight. She carries that nickname in both counties where she works. She has a thunder cloud and lightning tattoo on her arm.

Man! Good luck with all that. I hope you get back closer to your norm real soon. I know I shouldn't squawk, but it's just new to me. I mean "this week" new to me. PJ says I'm still living superman syndrome.

She ought to think about what my son (another adrenalin junkie) did, going back to college, specifically to become a Registered Nurse in ER. It feeds his adrenalin and he gets all the hours he wants. Now they have made him a trainer. He recommends it to paramedics he used to work with.

She spent so much time in hospitals with my grandson's cancer that she found a calling for medicine, but she doesn't want to go back to school again as she just completed her paramedic training. She could do it but wants the excitement of doing things on her own. One reason she enjoys her work, is that she is her own boss as long as she stays within protocol. There is nobody standing over her shoulder questioning her about everything. She won't have that independence in a hospital.

She once diagnosed a patient with hepatic encephalopathy and was giving her report to the nurse when the doctor was standing behind her without her knowing, confirmed her diagnosis and asked her how in the heck she knew that. She told him that I had suffered an attack due to my liver failure and her patient had the exact same symptoms.

When we went to New Orleans last summer, I took my own firefighter/EMT (her husband) and paramedic with me on the trip.

Better up your MEDs...dude !

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Senate voted 84-16 to pass a bipartisan bill last week that will permanently classify fentanyl-related substances, or 'copycat' fentanyl knock-offs, as Schedule I substances under the Controlled Substances Act.

The United States Senate has overwhelmingly passed the HALT Fentanyl Act (S.331), which designates fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs under the Controlled Substances Act.

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), was backed by 84 senators...however, 16 Democrats inexplicably voted against the measure.

Their reason? Either blind partisanship or a preference for soft-on-crime policies—I’m leaning toward the latter.

Problem is the US has been locking people up for drugs' offenses for a long time, and it hasn't been working.

Perhaps these people want a more effective way of dealing with drugs.

.

There are countries that give the death penalty for drug dealing....yet it still goes on !

We need to get King Solomon on the phone...maybe he could come up with something !

Not really the point. The claim in the OP was that everyone should support doing the same thing that has failed to work over and over and over again.

I'm pointing out that these Senators MIGHT be against this bill for that reason.
