WW2 plan to resettle Jews in Alaska

Not all people, just the criminals. ..
Is someone a criminal BEFORE they commit a crime?

"Critics will complain that the term “concentration camps” is an exaggeration that recalls Nazi camps during the Holocaust. However, the level of brutality does not change the fact that these meet the definition of a concentration camp, for example as seen in the 2013 Merriam-Webster English Language Learner’s Dictionary:

It seems it was just another scheme to keep Jews isolated so they couldn't "harm" other nations.

Actually, Southern Alaska is not unlike Northern Europe in climate. And it was the largest area of unsettled farmable land left in North America. And with a population of only 72,000 people (1940), even the largest city there (Anchorage) had a population of under 3,500 people. The state was doing all it could to attract people to move there. During that era the territory was actually paying people to move there, and the US government was practically giving away land to homesteaders.

Seems more to me as it was also seen as a great way to settle what even then was called the "Last Frontier". And likely in the long run better, putting them in an area that they could largely become self-sufficient and create their own communities instead of doing what had been done in the past. Simply dumping them into the large cities in the East (like New York) and swelling the ghettoes already there even more. And in such a location they likely would have actually integrated into the general population faster than they would have in big cities.

At the turn of the century, large numbers of Nordics migrated to the Dakotas. More or less for the same reason, large stretches of farmable land that was almost being given away. And within 2 decades, other than a slightly strange accent they had become like any other Americans. That was how the last branch of my family came to the US. Migrating from Norway at the turn of the century, and building a farm on what is now known as Minot Air Force Base.

Even today, 1/3 of all Dakotans are of Norwegian descent. Current Governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem is of Norwegian descent. Before her was Dennis Daugaard of Danish descent. Mike Rounds of Swedish Descent. Nordics have had a strong presence in the area for over a century because they were the last large group to settle there. And many likely were hoping to recreate that in Alaska.
