All presidents and people in power get labelled arrogant whether they are or not. The alternative is Jimmy Carter.

Of course you are entitled to pass the statements through your own view of the individual, but I, for one would see those quotes in a very different light.

Somewhat similar to the way every teenage killer is described by his family as an honor student....

But there are factors, public knowledge which suggest a certain view the President has of himself that suggest that one of our views may be more accurate:

If he want to Harvard I am assuming he is smart, however being smart does not mean you can run a country otherwise congress would be full of rocket scientists and mathemiticians.

Colloquially, I would agree.

But in the specific sense of being a smart leader of the nation, I believe it requires both vision, and that vision being a correct vision, in the sense that history would judge it so.

Barack Obama has a vision, but it is the one that history has deemed a failure as seen in the applications of socialism, Marxism, communism, etc, etc.

Not politically, nor economically is his vision correct.
So the WSJ piece is on the head.

I knew a guy that worked in the Carter WH.

Carter was arrogant to the max but he fostered this image of a humble public servant and it wasn't legit. It came off as being weak and niave.
