BBC News - Women say some rape victims should take blame - survey

    Thoughts USMB?

And does anyone think these poll numbers would be vastly different in the U.S. or about the same?

Muslim leader blames women for sex attacks

THE nation's most senior Muslim cleric has blamed immodestly dressed women who don't wear Islamic headdress for being preyed on by men and likened them to abandoned "meat" that attracts voracious animals.

So without turning into this into a Anti-Muslim thread, want to offer up your opinion?

Many women in Britain still have a 1950s mentality when it comes to rape

If that's true why? And the evidence? (If you're being serious that is.)

If you (AS A MALE) have an acquaintance, male, and you stop by his house after a night out and you get drugged and assaulted, is it then your fault? Suppose you were dressed up and looking handsome at the time, was he then provoked by you?

In the rare instance it is a woman who drugs you (THE MALE) and you wake up chained and loaded with viagra, ready to "perform," is it then your fault?

Being in the company of a male does not give him the right to sex.... PERIOD.

On the other hand, regarding dress, I can just hear the screams of outrage from western men, denied the chance to sneak a peep if western women suddenly started wearing abaya and hijab for self protection and to make the point that sexual assault is not a birthright of the male!

I don't know if they should take the blame, I do know some women lie about being raped. I knew one girl in high school who cried rape a few times, and one night when we were out cruising she sure didn't mind flirting with one of them of the guys who she accused of raping her.
And if you are wasted and he is wasted, and you don't remember having sex, well I don't think you should cry rape either.

I lean towards attributing the 'but for your actions' role to a female as much as a male. You climb into bed with some guy - ie, the scenario outlined in the article (and not the ridiculous fantasy dreamed up by the droolaider Contessa) then, in my female opinion, that female has placed herself in a situation whereby a guy could misinterpret the situation.

key words: but for your actions (not your dress)
