With all the acrimony about sexual "this & that," why no calls for ending statutes of limitations?

Women lie. Most complaints of rape are false. The older an accusation is before it is made the more likely it is to be a phony. These accusations get modified by feelings and faulty memory. What was a romantic caress when made becomes a clumsy grope when the man moves on to another woman.

Women make emotional lies. They wholeheartedly believe them and these women are wounded to their souls. It's just made up. I've seen it too many times
the pussy grabber lie along with 16 women?

Roy Moore. Bill Clinton. Bill Cosby. Donald Trump. All them have been accused sexually offending multiple people. Many of their accusers, regardless of their reason(s) for doing so, have come forward after the statute of limitations pertaining to the claim(s) they made have expired.

Should there be a statute that allows sexual predators to get away with it? Plenty of criminal acts are subject to no statute of limitations. That sex crimes are is, IMO, given that women seem to most often be the victims of them, an example of cultural/systemic diminution in the status our society accords to women. I think it's wrong that we countenance such a thing. I feel the same way about crimes committed against minors.

For all that of late we've been hearing about sexual harassment and other gender-focused misdeeds, I've heard scant little about eliminating the statutes of limitations that prevent us from trying alleged perpetrators. Why that is I cannot say. To my mind, sooner is better than later as goes trying such cases, but late is better is nonetheless better and fairer than never, which as goes some of the alleged victims, is where we find ourselves.

This isn't just a matter to be seen from the standpoint of securing justice for alleged victims'. The alleged miscreants deserve the opportunity to once and for all, and with regard to any given allegation, have their day in court to clear their name and defend their reputations.

Can't disagree with you.

What would be accomplished in a he said she said situation 40 yrs after the fact......I keep hearing how strong and Ind todays woman is ......yet the evidence is not there,,,,they dont even stand up for each other

so many others like tippy here to be avoided

There is no way to avoid the fact that women lie. The older an allegation is, the more likely it is a lie, an imagined growth. There is no downside to lying even when it is found out.

Now they have their day in the public eye and some can even cry on cue. It's not hard. I do it myself. This will pass and when it does, it will leave a callus making it harder for women to be believed at all.

When you see an allegation that is decades old it is likely to be a lie for publicity. Some of these complaints area so minor, they are dismissed out of hand. One of the complaints against Moore is that he sent a congratulations on your graduation card to a girl. One of the complaints against Trump was from a porn star that was hoping to use the publicity to launch a line of sex toys.

This sudden horror of some long ago attempt to steal a kiss or grab ass is fake, just fake. Next it will be "he told me my slip was showing. I was mortified that he mentioned my underwear."

That's not far off the mark because we have now moved into inappropriate comments, as grounds for female offense.

The statistics say that less than 1% of the allegations of rape or sexual assault are lies.

Men, on the other hand, lie far more frequently in cases of sexual assault. Look at the high profile men who, having been caught in sexual harassment, saying they thought their behaviour was consensual.

Brock Turner, the university student who was pulled off his unconscious victim by two witnesses and ran away, is now appealing his rape conviction.

Roy Moore, who initially said he dated high school girls with their parents’ consent, is now denying even knowing these women despite 30 witnesses who say otherwise.

Donald Trump bragged about his sexual assaults, and walking into the dressing rooms at his beauty pageants, but when more than a dozen women came forward and confirmed his stories, he called them all liars and said he would sue them for slander. Trump is now the one being sued for slander for calling these women liars.

Those who call other people “liars” are generally dishonest themselves. Only someone who habitually lies, thinks that everyone else does too. Trump is a prime example of this behaviour.

If Tipsy thinks all of the women who have made allegations of sexual assault or sexual harassment are lying, that’s because Tipsy is a basically dishonest person.

The rest of us, those of us who are honest in our daily lives, know these allegations are all too true, many of us from personal experience.

As females are finally having the guts to speak out republicans in office and some shithead women abandon them

Up to 10% of rape allegations are fake on the order of Duke Lacrosse and Brian Banks fake claims. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/107780121 At least two of the complaints against Al Franken are wholly fabricated. The anonymous women aren't identified and the acts are only alleged to be inappropriate.

Now, today, we have something quite different. The act actually occurred but are nonsense. Roy Moore sent a congratulations card to a graduate. He married a 23 year old woman that he met when she was 15. Trump tried to kiss a date. Franks talked about surrogacy, never realizing how stupid his staff was. Some judge made an inappropriate comment and after thinking it over for ten years some woman decided to be horrified.

It is easy to see why in very primitive times women were forcibly given hysterectomy to calm down the hysteria.

Was trump lying when he said he was a grabber of pussy? Did repubs not care about having a pervert in our WH and a SB in the senate in Moore?

Oh no!!, we cannot have that... Just Imagine all of those women in the past can reopen up sexual crimes cases. There wouldn't be any shush fund in the world that can resolved that many cases. Our country will have to file for bankruptcy because of too many horny Dems.

Why would the U.S. need to thus file for bankruptcy? I certainly have not advocated for and do not condone the U.S. government paying restitution and punitive damages for anyone's sexuallty abusive acts. Is the federal government doing so a given your model of civil jurisprudence?

they have been expanded over the years, at the time of Moore in Alabama it was only 3 yrs, now I believe it is 15 years....?

Part of the problem is evidence to prosecute the crime is no longer available and memories fade over time.... to get a guilty beyond reasonable doubt verdict....

It's very hard for a woman in the present getting an accused even charged..... let alone from 30 years ago....shoot that Italian actress that was wired by the cops, with all that weinstein said and did to her, did not help her to get a charge against him,,,,

so, that's why we have civil courts I suppose? The, without a reasonable doubt is removed and it is easier to at least get some restitution...

I believe it is 15 years....?

Yes, I believe that is the current period of viability.

This craziness is like the idiots wandering around Manhattan Beach with buttons that said "I believe the children". At some point this nonsense is going to pass, and when it does it will be almost impossible for a woman to be believed when she makes a sex abuse claim. She will have to have her own blue dress.

Crimes of sexual assault or harassment are generally crimes committed in private. Do you think Brock Turner would have been convicted of rape if he hadn’t been caught in the Act by two witnesses? If he had taken his victim to a private bedroom instead of assaulting her in a public place, he would have walked because it would have been a “he said/she said” case and he would have claimed she consented.

Unless the victim is badly beaten, rape leaves no proof. There may be evidence of sexual intercourse, but whether it was consensual or forced, will be difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Where the victim and the accused are acquainted, it becomes even more difficult to prove that she didn’t consent, and especially to meet the standard “beyond a reasonable doubt”.

The high profile cases where the victim lied, like Duke, are high profile precisely because they are rare. Had the Rolling Stone reporter done his/her job and interviewed the corroborating witnesses, they would have heard a different story that the one the “victim” told. This was a failure in doing research before publication.

And while the victim in the Rolling Stone story may have been lying, the 200 or so other rape victims who came forward at Duke to say similar stuff happened to them, in all likelihood, were not.

One in four women are the victims of sexual assault/harassment in their lifetime. One in six women are raped. If that doesn’t give decent men pause for reflection, there is no hope of this sad fact ever changing.

National Statistics on Sexual Violence

Women don’t report it because they fear they won’t be believed. How many women have told their mothers of an assault by their stepfathers only to have their mother deny it happened. When it happened to a member of my extended family, her mother threw her out of the house. The girl was 14. Her mother still blames her for the “trouble” she caused.

Sexual harassment is always a power play. Harvey Weinstein didn’t prey on big stars who would be taken seriously and believed, he preyed on young hopefuls whose careers he could and did crush if they refused him.

Bill Cosby attacked women who trusted him when he offered to help them with their careers.

Who would believe a 14 year old high school girl that the local Assistant District Attorney had molested her? Many here don’t believe he did this today, despite multiple unrelated accusers, supported by corroborating evidence and more than 30 corroborating witnesses.

Women are done with keeping silent. It’s not working for us. Time to try something different. Silence didn’t keep it from happening to my daughters. Hopefully my granddaughter and great granddaughter will grow up in a safer world because the silence has now been broken.
