And this shows wind and solar by themselves at 12% and this is an old article. Additionally, that you think these numbers are trivial either indicates your ignorance or your willingness to be dishonest.

Hydro would be the only renewable in the US if it wasn't for government subsidies and mandates because solar and wind sucks from an engineering and scientific basis. Biomass is a waste (no pun intended). Geothermal can work in certain (but rare) locations.

The government fucks up everything it touches.

Well paid jobs dependent on government subsidies. If wind and solar were all that viable, they would be on the free market instead of needing tax payer money to exist.

Care to explain the millions of deaths and long term health problems with the coal fired plants? One blade into an empty field of wheat.

Everything has its drawbacks but one draw back the coal industry did not have was expensive electricity. The death of a certain percentage of the population is a given in the struggle to thrive.

I suspect that's true for new construction given the regulatory hurtles but there's a lot more bang for the buck with a NG/Coal fired power plant over time. It just takes longer for them to turn a profit.

That said there are a hundreds of coal fired plants that could be upgraded and brought back on line be it by the use of coal again or converted to NG.
