Funny and all-too-common idea, but you just nuked about 50% of the world's oil reserves. Although the US can get by without a drop of that oil, our allies and, more importantly, trading partners cannot. About one third of the US economy is tied to foreign trade. Even a blockade of the Straits of Hormuz would result in a global depression and, consequently, global war, much less nuking the region rendering it unusable for decades.
