Will Republicans win 2016?

2016: Republicans or Liberals?

My point was, and still is, that the Democratic base is not as strong as it once was. If the GOP keeps the old, white guy base, and get even a little bit of support from the Democratic base, they will win.

The candidate makes all the difference IMO. Reagan carried 49 states against Mondale. He carried from New York to California, and every blue state in between.

Run a conservative candidate, and people will come out to vote.

The problem with that is you are working on an old Model. When Reagan ran in 1984, Whites made up 86% of the electorate. In 2012, they only made up 72% of the electorate and that number WILL go down in 2016.

furthermore, Reagan still polled very well with groups like women (58%) and Union Households (46%) that the Weird Mormon Robot lost pretty handily. (44% for women and 40% for union households.)

Now, on philosophy, Reagan did very well with Conservatives (82%) but he also did well with LIberals (29%) and MOderates (54%) Romney, not so much. Romney got 82% of conservatives, but he only got 11% of liberals and 41% of moderates.

You also work on the assumption that Reagan's philosophy was his selling point, and not his personality. They guy was a TV actor who was a known quantity for decades. He knew how to work the cameras and he knew how to work a crowd. Simply put, the GOP has no one with that kind of star power.

My point was, and still is, is that a GOP candidate can indeed draw people from various voting blocks. And thats all that matters.

Republicans can rightly pat themselves on the back for the 2014 election. But if they think it will carry over to 2016, they will be sadly disappointed. A presidential election at the same time Republicans are defending 24 Senate seats (Dems defend 10) will not bode well for the GOP

Why? Who is the Democratic base? I belong to a carpenters union, and after Obamacare fucked us, I can assure you that most of these union workers don't view the Dems as they once did.

The blacks? The Hispanics? Women?

Remember this, the party of the president in power gets the blame or credit from the people. So far, Obama is getting much more blame than credit.

Not a good sign for the Dems, IMO.

Mark

Who is their base?

Democrats have a HUGE advantage in electoral votes even before the election starts. Remember those Red States/Blue States? Dems have 230 electoral votes before the process starts and only need 40 to reach 270
Remember that Obama Executive Order? 90% of Hispanics support it. What does that do to the base in Florida and other border states?
Women? Democrats won 55% of the womens vote in 2012, with Hillary it will go to 60%
Black, vote? Gay vote? Young vote? Don't even ask

But at least you guys got the old, white, male, christian vote

Run a conservative and you will not win a single battleground state

Hillary would get 385 Electoral Votes against a Conservative

Then the country is doomed. Lets do what the left wants and get it over with, so the rebuilding can begin.

Save me from your drama

The predictions of gloom and doom if Republicans don't call the shots gets tiresome

How do you think and who would you vote?
Well, the first thing I would need to know is that the candidate is not a fucking idiot. Like, is he stupid enough to believe Nazis are left wingers?

What would s/he do to get the economy going? How would s/hebalance the budget? How would s/hereduce the federal debt? What would s/hedo about Iran's nuclear weapons program? What would s/hedo about North Korea's nuclear weapons program? What changes or improvements would s/he make to ObamaCare? If the answer is, "Repeal it", then what would s/he do to reform healthcare in America after that? What changes or improvements would s/he make to Medicare? What changes or improvements would s/he make to Social Security? What reforms would s/he make to our immigration policy? What changes would s/he make to the financial services industry? What would s/he do about ISIS? What would s/hedo about Putin?

I have yet to meet anyone on this forum who is fawning over this candidate or that candidate who is able to answer a single one of these questions for the potential candidate whose twat/cock they have in their mouth.

Well, "hope and change" got Obama elected.

Poor performance by Republicans got Obama elected

My point was, and still is, is that a GOP candidate can indeed draw people from various voting blocks. And thats all that matters.

Yes, if he's a sensible conservative who appeals to people.

The problem you don't seem to get is that Reagan- the REAL Reagan - would be called a RINO today and not welcomed in to the GOP.

I mean, he gave Amnesty to 3 million Mexicans, he appointed pro-Choice justices to the Supreme Court, he grew the size of government and expanded social security. He'd NEVER be welcomed by the GOP today.

Republicans will hold the House and lose the Senate and White House in 2016

More Republican screwing of the middle class.
Is the middle class better off or worse now than the day Obama took office?
Yeah, tell us about it. Dems are the party of fuck you.
Good question

Where were we before Obama became President?
The middle class was being layed off at 770,000 jobs a month. We have added 200,000 or more a month all year now.....that is a million jobs a month difference

But . . .

New U.S. economy Part-time and temp job markets explode - Washington Times

The new economic reality in the United States is this: The workforce has shifted from full-timers to part-timers.

On top of that, more Americans receive food stamps than work full time, Fox News reported.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that an estimated 28 million peolpe in America now work at part-time jobs. And as the Washington Examiner noted, a record level of workers in the nation now hold temporary positions — about 2.7 million — that are obtained through a job placement service.

The American Staffing Association reported that in the first quarter of 2013 staffing agencies employed about 2 percent of non-farm workers in the nation. That’s up by 2.9 percent from the similar quarter in 2012. And comparing June 2013 with June 2012, the number of Americans working at positions obtained through temp agencies jumped 6.7 percent.

“Nearly one-fifth of all jobs gained since the recession ended have been temporary,” said Ashe Schow in the Examiner report.

At the same time, full-time jobs decreased by 240,000 positions.

What's going to happen in 2016? The Dems are going to take the White House, re-take the Senate and make large gains in the House.

Why? Simple.......................over the next 2 years people are going to really understand the ACA and vote against anyone who says they want to repeal it.

Additionally, the GOP is going to get even crazier in their opposition to Obama, the people are going to see it and get tired of it, and then they will vote the GOP out.

I am not a Republican, but a conservative. My proof lies with Japan, the PIIGS, and many other "progressive" Countries.

If the GOP continues to govern like the Dems, then what I said will come to pass.

You could be right. So then, what does the country face if you are right? A debt that will overtake us?

If the people vote for spending without constraint, they will get what they deserve. God help us.

Exactly. The economy is NOT doing great. The voters understand that. Pumping up a stock market with "fake" money doesn't make our country rich, it makes us a house of cards.

Watch the documentary Ethos.
Here's the plot overview:
This documentary examines the flaws in our systems, and the mechanisms that work against democracy and the environment. From conflicts of interests in politics and unregulated corporate power, to a news media that serves the interests of powerful elites; ETHOS explores the systems that lead us into over consumption and warfare. Too often the media celebrates aspects of our society that belong in the dark ages, while at the same time ignoring or ridiculing progressive thinking or ideas. Many aspects of the way our systems work almost guarantee our destruction as a society and that's what this film is about. Fractured societies, poverty, disparity, pollution, warfare. Is there something inherently wrong with the human race? Is that what we should think of ourselves? We have tried to set up forms of law and government that safeguard the public good. But, if the majority of people want to live in peace and justice in a clean environment and we look around at the world and see that isn't the case, then is our democracy broken? Every time we turn on the TV there is another environmental catastrophe. Our water, our air, poisoned. Why do we allow this? The news shows endless reels of starving refugees fleeing to escape war zones. Why are we still fighting endless wars? Why do we live like this? If these things are happening then they are the logical outcomes to the way our systems work. So, what is wrong with the system? And more importantly, how can we fix it? These are the question Ethos attempts to answer. - Written by Media For Action
  • Hosted by twice Oscar nominated actor Woody Harrelson, Ethos explores the mechanisms in our systems that work against democracy, the environment and our own personal liberty.

Mark,

Obama has decreased spending (Federal Spending in Trillions):
2009 24.40
2010 23.11
2011 23.19
2012 21.77
2013 20.57
2014 20.22

So you basically wrong. Obama is just like Clinton in decreasing spending...
The 2009 Budget is Bush's last Budget....

Obama decreased? Or did the GOP congress force spending cuts? Was it called reconciliation? I don't recall.

Never the less, most spending is now mandatory, and the CBO has yet to show us even one study where we can get our budget under control without deep cuts in social spending.

The current projection adds 100 trillion to our debt. Look at it this way. It took up until Reagan for our debt to total one trillion dollars.

That is 200 and some years in our country's history. As of today, Obama has added about 6 trillion dollars.

You aren't worried about that? Don't people realize that the gravy train we ride today HAS TO STOP, or the country will cease to exist ala the USSR?
